http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tWRp2N90Yic&feature=related pretty safe
Awesome. That plane is gigantic. It looked as if it was at the very edge of the fence the entire time, despite how it kept getting closer and then turned a complete 90 degrees. I think the wing went over the heads of the people on the beach.
I wonder what happens if someone throws a ball or something in the engine
I wonder what happens if someone throws a ball or something in the engine
Or a person gets sucked in...
Or a person gets sucked in...
theyd die
if you throw a ball in there it'll basically be a dead engine.
Doesn't seem that safe afterall
I had a flight sim experience day in one of those simulators with all the controls and the cockpit etc. and we had the option of where to land, this was my first choice I landed on the beach then rolled onto the runway :v:
Nothing new and not even that dangerous.
I've been to the Gibraltar one, where you have a road across the runway, or the other way around

this airport is just a beach, no runway whatsoever
this airport is just a beach, no runway whatsoever
That's more of an airfield, light aircraft only, no need for a concrete-tarmac based runway as the craft wont sink into the ground under their own weight.
Lukla Airport is the number one most dangerous airport You cannot fuck up on landing
reminds me of this
this airport is just a beach, no runway whatsoever
I wonder how long it will be until ryanair start doing shit like this to "keep the costs down"
Hong Kong's old airport was pretty fucking dodgy The planes had to come in at a 90 degree angle and turn right before the runway because of mountains and shit Sometimes it didn't work out Fortunately they spent a shitload of money, built an artificial island and put a new airport on it [t]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/9/92/A_bird%27s_eye_view_of_Hong_Kong_International_Airport.JPG[/t]
It's pretty astonishing that only 2 people are able to operate such a massive piece of engineering with such precision.
Now I miss Hong Kong.
Madeira, Spain's cliffside runway was too short, so they built an extension on columns... (Skip ahead to 1:20) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ld4RageIzg8
It's fascinating to see where people flock to even for vacation. I really have to wonder why some people actually go to the beach that's right next to it. Watching the planes land would be cool for the first few times, but the noise and frequency of the landings would have to get annoying.
I've been to a place almost exactly the same as that I'm guessing it's quite a frequent arrangement seeing as airports tend to be on the coast in such places Still, on the beach I went to the planes almost touch the fence surrounding the landing strip It felt like you could have your head taken off by a jet if you jumped at the right time :v:
Or a person gets sucked in...
Don't post those pictures, it's pretty scary.
Or a person gets sucked in...
This fella survived. Somehow.
It's pretty astonishing that only 2 people are able to operate such a massive piece of engineering with such precision.
you really only need one. second guy is there for backup essentially.
you really only need one. second guy is there for backup essentially.
And to think we are slowly moving towards autoland.
It's not over the fence though, it just looks like it is. The wing's shadow doesn't cast on any people or the car passing by.
It's pretty astonishing that only 2 people are able to operate such a massive piece of engineering with such precision.
Requires a lot of training, but I think a lot of the precision part is handled by computers. I'm not sure about commercial jets though. In fighter jets there are hydraulic computers (made with logic gates) to help land the plane if there is an EMP or the primary computer controls go out for some reason.
