Toy Story Zero: The True Story Of Andy’s Dad & Woody’s Origin (ft. Mike Mozart)
One of the longest standing mysteries about Pixar’s Toy Story movies is what happened to Andy’s dad? It turns out the secret was once revealed by Pixar’s Head Writer Joe Ranft to his friend Mike Mozart. Today J sits down with Mike to discuss and retell the amazing story that happened before Toy Story.
This was absolutely amazing, shame the original interview is paywalled on patreon.
wow every sentence had so much information in it
Kinda annoying that not only is the full interview paywalled but he insists he left out parts, and its information made by someone else entirely.
Hopefully it's an early access kinda deal at least

Had no idea Mike Mozart was a big deal like this though damn
I just thought he was a random dude way back
Man, that plucks at the heartstrings. My favorite movie growing up for sure.
:mindblown:
Don't even know the story of Toy Story 4, and this is way better than it.
I would rather hear the story from the cool old guy first hand then this click bait idiot interrupting it every five seconds.
Cool story but holy shit this guy's a tool. Apparently withholds information behind a paywall then asks for the video to be spread around.
So if there was only ever one Woody toy made though, where'd the Prospector and Jessie come from? Also one-offs? Been a while since I've seen the movies.

It's not entirely his information to give away, but it's not his information to sell either which makes it even worse that he's asking people to pay to see the rest.
I'm guessing the Prospector, Jessie and Bullseye were probably in production and on store shelves prior to Woody, just in low quantities because they were less popular characters. I'm pretty sure that specific Jessie had been abandoned/dropped off in a donation bin by her previous owner.

Yeah listening to the Pizza Party Podcast Mike was on last week was crazy. The man has had a very eventful life.
That would make an amazing prequel movie. Probably a bit too "real" for Pixar though.

He was pretty huge on YouTube back in the day, so huge that he has multiple channels along with JeepersMedia, such as TheToyChannel, comedychannel, MikeMozart, ScaryVideos, FailToys (a channel without any videos at this point), and LUAUnited. He's pretty old school in my book, and when he popped back up about two years ago, I even made a thread about it! Knowing now that he was known as the toy guy even before YouTube has only increased my love for the guy!
He had a livestream a couple of weeks back on TheToyChannel, and right at the start he confirmed he was going to do toy reviews again soon! While he's said that many times before, I really do want to believe it this time! If you can spare the time, if you watched his stuff back in the day, watch that livestream to find out what's been going on in his life.
Man this guy is obnoxious.
[sp]it is a mishtery[/sp]

Might explain the hiding of the interview behind the paywall.
the part where they mass produce loads of shit for woody's show except for the MAIN CHARACTER sounds off

The main character toy was used as a ploy to sell more cereal
complete the collection of toys by buying a bunch of cereal to get the last guy.

then offer a better explanation that makes more sense then. this one fills in alot of holes. i also doubt mike mozart of all people would lie.
I had no idea Mike Mozart was actually involved with Disney, that's really cool, he's a genuine guy.

Well I mean, Andrew Stanton was a writer for Toy Story 1, 2 and 3 so I wouldn't discredit what he has to say about this just yet.
Is is possible this was Joe Ranfts's personal headcanon, that he only shared with Mozart and never any of the other core Pixar writers? I can kind of see why if so: this is pretty dark even for Pixar, perhaps much darker than what the rest of the Toy Story team was intending.
If the Andy who wrote his name on Woody's foot is the dad of the current Andy, why is Andy's signature on Buzz's foot exactly the same? They just happen to have the exact same shitty child hand writing?
Also, in Toy Story 2 Al and Geri (the toy repairman) treat Woody as though he was rare, not one of a kind. It probably would have come up considering Al is an obsessive collector.
The name on Buzz's foot isn't the same (In the first movie at least). It's a bit neater, although that could easily be attributed to Andy's handwriting improving over time, since Buzz was new in the first movie.
But Al's collection does kind of suggest that Woody is rare, not one-of-a-kind. I mean it seems kind of strange that toys would be made of the entire supporting cast before the main character, and that at least one of them got a fancy box that looks like it was supposed to be in a store.
Also if Woody was only one of 3 toys that Andy got from his dad, why the other two not seem significant to college-age Andy when Woody clearly did?

did buzz get andy on his foot in toy story 1? Woody had his original name painted over in 2 after al's toy barn

I remember when Mike told us "[he's] back and making toy reviews," and I was ready to believe. When was that, again?

If this is true this video is the scummiest thing I've ever seen on YouTube

He streamed again earlier this month explaining why he's been AWOL, mostly focusing on his art career
Yeah this seems very far fetched. The Prospector even says to Woody that everyone wanted the other toys and not him so thats the reason hes so salty about Woody leaving. PLUS, Al knowing every little detail about him there had to be others
Two videos kinda prove this to be wrong
