[sp]Its a knacksterpiece![/sp]
Never did understand the point behind this game. To show off the PS4's capabilities?

Knack was more a throw away release exclusive that everyone was supposed to forget about, brought to light by memes and that somehow got a sequel.
I still can't believe it got a fucking sequel, like anyone was asking for Knack 2 unironically.

according to Wikipedia,
Knack was envisioned as the PlayStation 4 equivalent of a Crash Bandicoot title. Knack was the first PS4 game shown to the public. Sony Computer Entertainment decided to do this because they wanted to prove that the PS4's launch lineup did not exclusively consist of big-budget first-person shooters. Because of Knack's intentional similarities to the successful Crash Bandicoot series, Sony Computer Entertainment felt it would be a smart business decision to heavily market Knack as an essential PS4 title. However, some critics questioned this decision, mainly because of the fact that this business tactic has been employed by Sony before. I didn't expect Dunkey's Knack 2 video to live up to the meme, but it so did.
Wait until Knack 3 comes out,Dunkey will just be like "I didn't actually like Knack 2".

yeah and it constantly dipped below 10 FPS, what a great game to showcase the PS4
Dunkey is a genius.

The first Knack was a weird fucking shambles of a game on a technical level. Looks like most of that's been resolved in the sequel. But it's not a great first impression for a launch title.
Consider that Crash Bandicoot pushed the PS1 in weird ways that shouldn't have worked, look great doing so and ran well. Consider that Jak & Daxter was the first game to feature totally streaming worlds in video games and it still ran fucking well and looked good. Consider that Uncharted was at the time a technically astounding feat for a console title, and a huge shift in the kinds of stories told in third person action shooters.
Knack just doesn't fit that pattern at all.
I dunno, I felt more of the goofy ironic hype towards the end of his Splatoon 2 video

Pretty sure Soul Reaver beat it to the punch by like a couple years

Well it doesn't hold the current record for it.
It may be down to the difference in how that's described. It's been a few years since I played it, but I'm fairly certain you can walk from the starting point on Sentinel Beach all the way to the final boss fight without encountering a single doorway that holds you up (if you didn't need to do the little areas off to the side for progression purposes). Though I think there's a few elevators at the very end you have to ride which could count as loading.
Having not played Soul Reaver I can't exactly comment on how "loadless" the streaming is. The technical explanations of the engine sound pretty solid but are there doors between rooms that hide the loading similar to how say, Metroid Prime, hides it?
according to Wikipedia,
And yet 4 years later they just said fuck it and gave us Crash Bandicoot for PS4.
Maybe they could've just done that to begin with.

I don't know why people keep thinking Sony has anything to do with N Sane Trilogy; Naughty Dog and Sony had no involvement with development beyond giving VV some old code and assets

I'm aware of that and I understand the stars hadn't aligned yet for such a release.
I'm speaking purely from launch title/sale figure perspective. It would have been one HELL of a way to ship the PS4 at launch. The fact we got the N Sane Trilogy at all is nothing short of fucking amazing.
