Soo they're gonna ignore that the context of the movie isn't historical depiction, but a spartan soldier telling the story as a speech to rile up an army before battle.
Dan Carlin does a much better job of this issue, mainly because he spends several hours going over the context and the history of the Persian empire that led up to the moment. His hardcore history podcast is the bomb.
when i watched it as kid it was pretty fucking cool but it's a comic in movie format, nothing more, it doesn't have anything important or thought-provoking to say, it's essentially a guy-flick with MUSCLES and HONOR and VIOLENCE and whatnot
As a movie it's an interesting albeit formulaic film. It's got a great visual theme through out, we actually did an analysis of it in film theory class years ago because it's got a very strong theme represented visually constantly. It doesn't do much else but it does that really well.

Gee, I don't remember a disclaimer reading "based on a true story", or even that it was based on a comic that was based on the event. There's a key phrase there, "based on," which gives the idea that it isn't a 100% correct depiction.

Yeah I never really knew about the persian empire (and am not going to act like I do), so this video actually taught me a few general things about history.
Just because it's Cracked doesn't mean they can't have something useful pop up every once in a while; and it also doesn't mean you have to find a contrived reason to shit on them like "well I already knew about that, so they shouldn't have made the video".
It's neither amazing nor shit, it's just an ok enjoyable movie. The visuals are great though, but I can understand people who say they overdone it with the green screen and crazy effects.

Jokes aside. Personally 300 came across as an okay movie, good setpieces but nothing to write home about.
I do admit cracked has been very biased lately. I remember noticing it some months ago when they had an article that talked about Zelda being the damsel in distress mysoginist as well as Cortana. It felt like heavy pandering.

Hey, you're right. I have noticed I post usually derogatory stuff towards things that bother me. The reason for that is, I just don't really see the point in saying "yeah i like this thing" in a thread about "thing" (or in this case "Cracked sucks"), essentially echo chambering. I saw something in the thread that made me turn my head, and that's usually the time that I'll stop and write a comment. It's just a difference in personality I guess.
But calling a mass acclaimed movie "literal garbage" is being an asshole and is a venomous thing to do. You may not like the movie which is perfectly fine; but saying it's factual "garbage" implies a negative tone onto people who do like the movie, which is rude. It just shocks me to see it come from that guy specifically because he usually preaches about being nice and what not.
