I just don't like the misleading "trailer", they went as far as covering the tracks it runs on. Unless you watch the story/making of, you won't really understand how severely limited it is right now. (Unlike what the finished "ad" would have you believe :p )

This looks just as dumb as the hendo hoverboard. Just that they disguised it a bit and making it less obvious that it needs the special surface.
Except the Hendo board required electricity to operate. A bit more maintainable than liquid nitrogen.
liquid nitrogen is pretty easy to get your hands on though
liquid nitrogen is pretty easy to get your hands on though
Not as easy as electricity.
Unless you watch the story/making of, you won't really understand how severely limited it is right now.
It's not going to be less limited in future because of the way physics works
It's not going to be less limited in future because of the way physics works
Well yes. That's what I meant, my bad.
liquid nitrogen is pretty easy to get your hands on though
Depends on where you live. Those containers are very expensive to ship.
Alright, the water part was slick looking, but otherwise... it functions identically to a skateboard which can only be used over a certain material. You could consider this to be an advanced piece of technology but it doesn't really fix any problems nor have any applicable use. All in all it's a cool-looking board that looks like dry ice smoke is coming out of its sides made by a luxury vehicle company.

yeah, works better, but you're locked to a magnetic rail that other electrical one trades off the silent and passive (sans needing supercooling (!)) for a horde of angry bees, but being usable above any ferromagnetic surface
It looks like it could get damaged really easily. Also gotta love the comments on YT: ''Forget the hoverboard. I just want a magnet suit so I can hover my body around the park!!''
Do they really think more than 3 people are gonna buy this? It's basically useless outside of some extremely unlikely circumstances. This would only be used by the super rich who could afford to coat a park in the damn material.

Not only that, but correct me if I'm wrong, you'd have almost no control of your direction and speed with this thing right? As well as direction in the case of the video. Still, looks cool though.
What is the reason that it has to be on a rail though? Why can't you just fix up a whole skatepark with an electromagnetic surface? (aside from obvious money reasons)
What is the reason that it has to be on a rail though? Why can't you just fix up a whole skatepark with an electromagnetic surface? (aside from obvious money reasons)
I think it has to do with the way superconductors work. I have never seen a superconductor hover over on a planar surface. [editline]5th August 2015[/editline] I'd like to see someone make a roller coaster out of this. [editline]5th August 2015[/editline] Also was it just a lexus commercial?
What is the reason that it has to be on a rail though? Why can't you just fix up a whole skatepark with an electromagnetic surface? (aside from obvious money reasons)
Because the alignment of the magnetic field has to be exactly right. They show this at 1:41 in the first video. You could make an entire park out of that surface, but there's no way to align the magnetic field to allow travel in any direction you want.

if this is a hoverboard then a maglev train is a flying car
