Fucking 5 minutes in and all the arguments are awful. Pewdiepie is not one of the biggest channels in Youtube, like fucking really? Then he goes on to talk about freedom of speech, which is not even remotely close to the issue at hand, Pewdiepie wasn't censored, he chose to say a racial epithet on a stream and the fact that he was free to say it doesn't shield him from criticism. It also doesn't matter if he didn't mean it, that again doesn't shield you from consequences. Pewdiepie knows that what he said was wrong, by his own admission, I don't know why people are arguing otherwise. Matter of fact the only person still bringing this dumb shit up is Keemstar and it seems like this video is just a repeat of what he said.

If you weren't offended then why would you be retroactively offended now?
Either ethan seriously thinks this way, in which case he's become what he satirises, or he's just saying what he feels he's expected to as a prominent figure on youtube. Either way I've lost a little respect for him.
From what i can tell people seem to be ignoring the context. Pewd's called someone a nigger as an insult while mad, whereas in the podcast he was referencing some shit idubbbz says. Im not going to comment on if Ian/idubbbz is in the wrong here as I dont really know enough
Why does Ian get a pass, also apparently a token black guy is the only one who can have an opinion on the issue, and he can say homophobic slurs all he wants...
Because of context. Is this seriously such a hard concept to grasp? Ian gets it, his video on DramaAlert has the clip of Keemstar saying "Alex is a stupid fucking nigger" very prominently in it. Nobody said shit about throwing anybody under the bus then. Why? Because everyone understands that it's a juvenile, stupid thing to say that isn't considered acceptable.
Man must suck to be this guy and having nothing better to do than make a video about how disappointed he is in Ethan for being disappointed in PewDiePie.

Pewdiepie was frustrated and thought of a really bad word as an emotional release. I dont see the difference. Ethan wasn't just quoting for that entire video, and knows full well what he is saying. And the whole bit about the token black guy was incredibly dumb.

"I just hate that... That YouTube... YouTube gave Ethan...... A platform to SPEAK.. and..... to share his VOICE..... and..... everyone looks up to Ethan.... to.... to talk about these things.." like holy fuck, just say what you need to say and stop being so melodramatic. This guy's way of speaking is just fucking insufferable.

The only reason the phrase "nigger faggot" is associated with Ian is not because of his liberal use of it, it's because someone called him that in response to one of his Kickstarter reviews. From then on, his fans started calling him that in fan mail for some reason. There has never been a point where the phrase "nigger faggot" has become acceptable, or not offensive, its self-deprecating. You're going for choice quotes here anyway, Ian explains where the phrase came about in literally that same podcast. It's never been an acceptable thing to say to somebody, it's mostly self-deprecating. Honestly, I don't get why people are having trouble with this. Just saying the word "nigger", or "nigger faggot", when all you're doing is referencing what someone else said is not offending anybody; it's a word, it exists. Calling somebody a "fucking nigger" is clearly meant to be offensive, and it's also a big nono, which, again, everyone is aware of, you wouldn't find Ian saying that to somebody, you wouldn't find Ethan saying that to somebody. Again, Pewdiepie knows this and understands the difference, why argue otherwise?

Not to mention the other slurs like "Retarded" he frequently uses. Either all of it is okay, or none of it is okay -Idubbz Plus Ian uses nigger liberally, like the whole tana mongeau thing. It isnt just "Niggerfaggot"

It's this mentality of "they're too big! Boys will be boys" shit that lets him get away with it time after time after time. No matter what controversy surrounds him or big YouTubers telling him to go kill himself he will still exist because people think he's too big too fall almost
What is America, even
What? If you are asking why the word is a big deal here....just like....google it. If you are asking about felix, he is swedish. Why is america relevant?

People who talk about this issue and literally say "nigger" rather than the "n word" don't get into trouble either, just like the guy in the video. This is why felix is getting so much shit, he used it in it's offensive way, the only way the context could be even worse is if the guy he was talking about was actually black. Where's Ian and Ethan saying it wasn't directed towards anyone in particular and it was more about being a bit edgy in my opinion. That's not to say that I hate pewds for what he did. He fucked up, he knew right away he did. And I'm a bit sad that Ethan and in turn this guy and so many others had to make videos about it because all it's doing is adding gasoline to the fire. They are doing nothing except to stroke their own ego by sitting there and talking shit about pewdiepie.
It's a little bit fucked that some people are more bothered by someone criticising someone for using nigger as an insult than they are by the person using nigger as an insult.
i fully agree with the video, i expect Ethan to address this shit soon
There's a difference between Ian putting together two of the most offensive slurs to create an absurd, self-deprecating insult, and getting angry at someone and calling them a "fucking nigger". And I don't even think that Ian is free to use that however he pleases - if people don't want to advertise on his videos and people call him out for saying it, it should be expected.
If you can get banned for saying something on this forum, you also probably shouldn't say it on the most popular stream on the internet.
The context is what bugs me. If PewDiePie had said "nigger" as an obvious joke, like when Ethan jokingly says "nigger faggot", that would be one thing. But the fact that he just blurted it out as an insult, apparently as the first thing that came into his head, really bugs me. Like I don't know much about PewDiePie but I've never seen anyone blurt "nigger" like that unless it's something they regularly say. I'm not saying he's racist, but the whole situation is uncomfortable.

I don't know about the people defending him, but I've never been upset with someone and IMMEDIATELY called him a racial slur.
There are plenty of things to criticize h3h3 for, but this isn't one of them. This whole thing seems like its just another way for the skeptic community to revive the "DAE youtube censorship???" circlejerk, by completely ignoring the context of what pdp and ethan said.

To a lot of people outside the US the word "nigger" is just another bad word.
Remember that the word nigger doesn't hold the same weight outside of america. To a lot of people outside the US the word "nigger" is just another bad word.
not even necessarily a bad word, some languages in europe and asia use the word "niger" or variations as a literal descriptive term of a black person this mishmash of language in - in this case - europe, is probably what led PDP to think that it's not really that much of a taboo word, but is just an offensive, "americanized" slur. the best thing about this isn't the majority of the people who take genuine offense being white or whatever, but rather that most are americans who cannot fathom that a swedish youtuber might not take words like "nigger" so seriously because the world doesn't revolve around american history.
If you can get banned for saying something on this forum, you also probably shouldn't say it on the most popular stream on the internet.
Plenty of people say nigger without getting banned. Like the others said, it's all about context.
"He got into the heat of the moment" Uh. Right. I don't know about the people defending him, but I've never been upset with someone and IMMEDIATELY called him a racial slur.
Now, I'm not super defending him or anything because it was said in the wrong context. And context matters. But also looking at the background matters at least a little bit, and for years pewdiepie was the upfront 'blurt out random shit for 13 year olds every day' guy. Just look at his old videos and you'll see what I mean. So for him, saying a racial slur may be something legit said in the heat of the moment because of his past. It's not really an excuse, but it also isn't the end of the world. Some people are acting like he's a legit bad guy because of this, but people need to stop getting so worked up over shit like this. Like, a bit offtopic and rambling here, but theres so many middle class white people who get worked up over others saying racial slurs and shit. It's kinda eye rolling by now whenever someone says a bad word and people freak the fuck out over it.

He's been performing for an international audience for ages and has lived in the UK for almost five years, if he doesn't know that nigger is an offensive slur by now then he is an idiot.
It's less about him being a bad guy and more the precedent of how facetious people are being about these issues. To have the word Nigger with a hard R anywhere near your "unconscious" vocabulary says a lot about your character; or at least your disconnection. The word has a powerful; specific meaning no matter its context and thinking it doesn't shows your lack of connection to the culture. Considering the demographics of this website the reactions to this situation make sense.
