The iron lung has to enclose the entire torso keeping it airtight, so she basically can't use her arms, as they would either have to be half-inside the thing, with a tiny amount able to go outside, through an airseal, or entirely enclosed.

The idea of being completely enclosed forever in something like that horrifies me to no end.
