I fell for the same thing the first time I joined a chess club, I felt like such a dummy.
i've never played chess competitively, so i guess i should start by asking what is a scholar's mate?
Can someone explain this for us dummies who can only play checkers?

Fucking love Chess Network 18:10 is hilarious in this tournament [editline]15th July 2016[/editline]
A text book way of winning the game, used to explain the game to new players. It's the cheapest, fastest, dirtiest win but it's super easy to avoid.

My brother visited the family from college and decided to take me on in chess, I told him multiple times no, but he couldn't take that for an answer. I pulled a Scholars Mate on him and he literally threw the board at me with all the pieces still on it :v:v
The fool's mate is faster, and imo more humiliating, but happens far less often (white checkmated by black's queen on the 2nd move, or third if black is mated by white's queen)

The "scholars mate" is a way to quickly check-mate your opponent but it is bad strategicly. To put it in perspective for you video-gamers: A scholars mate is like a zerg-rush. A chance to win the game early with a ton of pressure, but if countered sets you back and makes it virtually impossible for you to win. So, players don't often play it. So, Jerry is setting up for the mid-game and doesn't counter it. GGNORE
