I'm pretty sure they were arrested because they didn't retract the gate before pulling out of the port, potentially causing the woman to drive onto the ferry without realizing it wasn't accepting anymore cars / already leaving.
I agree FreezingStorm, it's like if I was arrested for murder by taking out a knife to cut my food and someone throw themselves on it, and then accused of that because I didn't put a sign that says "don't trip on the knife".
Look at those assholes on the ferry just watching and throwing life-preservers half-assedly.
The saddest part is that they probably would have been fine if they had just pulled forward a bit more.

Just imagine what was going through their minds as they got onto the ferry. I bet they were in a fit of relief when they finally made it and bridged the little gap, which was then swiftly met with the immediate pant-shitting fear of rolling off and getting crushed.

it's not comparable. The ferry didn't put up the gate before taking off, and they had only slightly separated by the time the car reached. From road-level you probably wouldn't even see the gap in time. As someone taking the ferry they likely have driven to this thing dozens of times before, so they weren't expecting a change of routine
Having a gate, traffic guard or maybe some cones set out to say "hey, we're leaving the dock and you missed the boat" is basic safety precautions you're meant to follow for the job and not doing it was met with grave consequence.
can't really go back and nitpick it because the video's down though, may as well close up shop
