• Best DLC ever. Or what can be learned from GTA4: Gay Tony

Made another video. In the middle of writing the script I realized a lot of it has to do with GTA again, that's just a coincidence. Making a video in 4K is surprisingly not easy, who would have guessed?
I do actually want a story DLC for GTAV so bad, it's such a shame that GTAO is such a success on consoles because imo it's utter crap.
I disagree with what you said about GTA IV's vehicle handling; it would have been more pleasant if it was more realistic. GTA IV's car physics being more realistic would actually make them more grippy and faster. GTA V's car handling is too grippy though, it's a bit boring, and still slow. I also disagree with what you said about GTA IV's story being poorly fit because it was a bit dark. It was way more memorable than whatever the story is TBoGT was, and Luis is way more of a boring ass protagonist than Niko. Otherwise, I agree completely, TBoGT was a step in the right direction.
A story DLC is the ONLY thing that will bring me back to GTAV. I couldn't give a shit about grinding for months on end to get 'in game rich' I mean fuck, I am already doing that in real life. No thanks. As I get older the more I realize that online as it stands as a feature in games these days is uninspiring. But a god story is timeless. I honestly liked the GTA4 story line much better than GTAV
Well I have to say I absolutely disagree with most of the things you had to say about GTA IV. The handling was way more fun (if not tweaked well enough) than GTA V's handling, and it fits perfectly into a sandbox game because of that. In GTA V, you might as well just take the cab anywhere. The GTA4 atmosphere and storyline seems to have more depth than the wacky GTA V approach. And that's not because of one approach being inherently superior to the other, but rather because GTA V's approach felt half baked from the ground up. I don't believe GTA IVs atmosphere was a poor fit at all, just a nice change of setting. Granted, the missions in GTA IV were mostly filler, and you're right to say that the interesting tech and attention to detail - a lot of which is gone in GTA V, for some inexplicable reason - was carrying the weight. Another thing you're partially right in is the little gimmicks like the relationship business and like/respect. The idea as a whole is pretty cool, but it was simply not thought out well enough. I'm not sure what the issue with the weapon selection is, while the GTAV approach is obviously a lot better, you just scrolled over the sniper rifle a couple of times for no apparent reason. The controls are stiff though, can't argue with that. Another thing about the missions is that in GTA V they aren't very gripping either. It seems that Rockstar tried a bit too hard to deviate from the standard formula, afraid of making the same mistake GTA IV did. Because of this, a lot of the "uniqueness" is either short-lived novelty, or simply feels tacked on or half-baked.
When you were showing off how long it takes to switch to the sniper rifle you said it took 9 seconds, but you cycled past it twice.
TBoGT certainly wasn't the best DLC/Expansion pack of all time, but I liked it a hell of a lot more than the slog that was GTA IV.
Thanks for the replies! How can I make more people see this video? I really have no idea where to put it (besides the GTA thread here on facepunch)
I disagree with what you said about GTA IV's vehicle handling; it would have been more pleasant if it was more realistic. It works well in scripted scenarios or when running away from the cops, but when you mostly want to cruise around the city it really plays against you - and cruising around is something that Rockstar very much wants you to do. GTA5's handling is too grippy, I agree with you here.
The GTA4 atmosphere and storyline seems to have more depth than the wacky GTA V approach. But, the thing is, with V you can see where and how they fucked up an idea that made sense, which is: make a story with characters so far beyond sanity, that the gameplay itself doesn't really stand out in front of them. It falls flat on it's face, yes (it really is disappointing), but there's an idea there that makes sense to me. With IV it's a story that's executed far better, but it's so bizarre in the context of a GTA game, that it loses a lot of it's strengths. I didn't really want to dwell on the story aspect a lot, and that was a mistake, I should have elaborated my point of view.
I'm not sure what the issue with the weapon selection is, while the GTAV approach is obviously a lot better, you just scrolled over the sniper rifle a couple of times for no apparent reason. The weapon switching system works, but not as well as it could. A gray icon on top of a gray game isn't very noticeable, and when the player is in a combat situation, you want him to understand what he's doing. It worked well in III-era games, because there the weapon switching was instantaneous, and you could see what weapon you changed too right away, without having to look in a corner. I wish I could play GTA IV again, but it seems like the PC Steam version is actually impossible to get running anymore.
I was with you and liking the video up until you called GTA Online just garbage as your final point for some reason to a video about Gay Tony. I don't know about you, but heists, races, mario-kart-esque antics, and the party-mode that is adversary is fun enough if you have friends to play with. Plus I don't have to pay for any of the new modes and vehicles they add. It's free.
It's a pretty cool video though, your voicework is on a decent level and the audio quality is great. Although I think you're making to many gaps where you don't speak, and I think you speak a slightly little bit too slowly. That might be just me though.
Nice video, but I quite enjoyed the dark story of gta 4 though, it felt a lot more 'grown up' - especially when compared to the writing in gta 5. I also feel like they took a lot of lazy shortcuts in gta 5 in regards to the police AI, which just makes the police chases a lot less satisfying. those are episodic expansions not DLC.
those are episodic expansions not DLC.
those aren't mutually exclusive
Sorry but Red Dead Undead Nightmare was the greatest expansion of ALL time. ALL time
those are episodic expansions not DLC.
DLC is Downloadable Content, so that makes TBoGT DLC. [editline]23rd September 2016[/editline] Also my vote goes the Shivering Isles expansion
DLC is Downloadable Content, so that makes TBoGT DLC. [editline]23rd September 2016[/editline] Also my vote goes the Shivering Isles expansion
the shivering isles dlc was very good :) [editline]23rd September 2016[/editline] but i thought that it was episodic expansion since they were bought retail?
those are episodic expansions not DLC.
You're right. I have the retail copy of the GTA EFLC Standalone Edition infront of me right now, which does not require the original game copy. Don't understand why people call it DLC, but whatever. On the copy it says this on the cover "Two complete games: the Lost and Damned & the Ballad of Gay Tony". You can either download it through the Club/Steam process or buy it retail; which does not make it automatically DLC as by it's definition of purpose in marketing term. Also what does the Steam page say? My Internet sucks right now. edit: Steam says nothing about DLC. Conclusion: It's a 'standalone expansion'.
So basically I were right!
Recent "Blood and Wine" is "best dlc ever" material
Almost all the terms for DLC/addon/expansions are interchangeable, and there's really no actual standard for it.
Almost all the terms for DLC/addon/expansions are interchangeable, and there's really no actual standard for it.
Finally someone who gets it. No reason to argue these terms as they all are vague and mean mostly the same thing.
These episodes were Xbox exclusive DLC before they were packaged as EFLC. Anyway, I don't think it's that important. Does anybody know any other place where I can share this video?

Just because they don't mention it as DLC does not mean that it means it not DLC. Like said before it doesn't fucking matter what you call it since it's all the same, it's not exclusively titled something, a mansion is still a house. But i ain't discussing this anymore. :speedfap:
