Toronto cops shoots guy 9 times and tazes the corpse(?)

Damn either that guy is a terrible shot and just missed half the ones, or they are stupid.

even if all 9 shots hit him, he mightn't necessarily die immediately, and could still, in theory (however unlikely), pose a threat enough to require a tasing.

yeah I don't necessarily have a problem with what happened just seemed a little silly.
It's kind of silly though, because if they'd still shot him (but only once) and he'd die, no one would consider it excessive force. Because it's nine times somehow that makes it excessive, despite the fact that bullets have this rather high propensity to kill people. Fact is, if you walk towards a cop brandishing a knife you're probably going to get hurt or killed.
Since I live in the area, apparently the guy was a knife collector, and he brought one with him, alone on a transit. So someone called the cops, cause I guess they were scared.
They arrived and he pulled out his knife, I'm not sure what happened that made the cops think he was an immediate threat.
There were protests today to ask why he was shot down, at the age of.. 17 or something. I forget the age. Apparently he was a kind, well spoken, teenage kid.
Iunno what to make of it. I guess he brandished a knife, and might have gotten too close to a cop. I don't know.

if that was the case he shouldn't have escalated the situation.
Why was the knife out to begin with? First impression is that he was up to no good.
Hey, just let me hold my fucking knife up and ignore the law enforcement guys holding guns at me yelling "DROP THE KNIFE" 20+ times!
What the fuck was he thinking?
boy, that guy really loves his knife.
Cops need to get training to start using their guns as a last resort, same with tasers. Those things are tools to be used in immediate or extreme danger. Not to get someone to put down, or comply with your commands.
This could have been handled far better than emptying a mag into a guy.
Police brutality at its finest.

started making trouble in the neighborhood.

The guy started walking towards them with a knife after being told to drop it numerous times, how were they not in immediate or extreme danger?

If it wasn't suicide by cop, then what the fuck was he thinking?
suicide by cop / or he was under the influence of something

I'm not going to risk my life going within range to taze some little cunt that won't drop his knife when being told to with weapons drawn. I have no sympathy for him.
The media is turning this into another "poor kid got shot for no good reason" circus. People forget the last time someone randomly pulled out a knife on a bus they fucking beheaded somebody with it. In the video it is clearly heard that an officer is asking him if he's the only one on the bus, they had no idea if there were other people possibly hiding or injured in there. In the video he was also heard taunting the police, again something that Vince Weiguang Li did in the Greyhound incident. The amount support a knife-brandishing punk is getting is beyond ridiculous.
Who is calling someone else a 'fucking pussy' during that video? Was it the guy on the streetcar?
And that, kids, is why you NEVER brandish anything, that looks like it can seriously harm others, in public or otherwise inappropriate areas.
Carry them in a bag or purse or something if you gotta transport them, but not on plain sight.
Just keeping it sheathed is enough.
Hell, even if you're carrying that shit around, you drop it when they tell you to drop it.
It was a fucking knife come on
It was a fucking knife come on
Yeah just a harmless knife!
It was a fucking knife come on
Yeah, and all he had to do was drop it when they said so
They did tell him to drop the knife more than once, so really if he had listened he wouldn't have got shot.

haha yeah man LOL fuck those greedy power-hungry evil cop pigs
i should be able to express my right to brandish a knife in public after officers SCREAM at me to put it down numerous times!!!!
fuck the government!!! ron paul 2012.
damn did they need the whole force to be down there?
but yeah, shoulda dropped the knife brah

He only had a 3" knife. If a dozen cops can't subdue somebody that has been shot 9 times without tasing him, then they need to go fuck themselves.
[editline]29th July 2013[/editline]
and did they really need to shoot him that many times? He went down after the first 3 shots.

Then maybe they shouldn't have become police officers. Surely they could have got a couple riot shields out and kettled him, or is that response reserved for the law abiding folks (G20, student protests, etc).
"Drop the knife" - Cop
"You're a fucking pussy" - Suspect.
Clearly heard in the video.
Yeah. He had it coming. Obviously he was not very bright.
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

One thing I've learned from the Army and which applies to the Police Force also is that if you're firing your weapon you're shooting to kill, not to wound/maim the target, but to kill.
This means that once the decision has been made to fire you go through with it until you're sure the target is no longer a threat.

No on else was on the bus therefore no ones life is in danger but his own. He did not try to exit the bus (aka threaten the officers) so it seems his own live was the only thing in danger which 9 or so shots (However many they fired into the car) is not going to solve.
