Incorrect.
Some people are saying it isn't an Alien prequel, others are saying it is, let me explain to clear up confusion.
This [b]IS[/b] an indirect prequel to Alien, though either Ridley or H.R.Giger (I don't remember) said that Xenomorphs probably won't make an appearance or be the main antagonist becuase "the image is too over used and I want something new and exciting to give the audience a good scare."
The movie's focus is on the crashed ship found in the first Alien movie and deals with the Space Jokeys and their history. In this trailer we can clearly see this is the exact same ship from the first movie (I'm watching that part from Alien as I type this actually) but it looks cleaner. I assume this takes place quite some time before the events of Alien but it is undoubtedly in the same universe.
I'm pretty sure this was originally supposed to be the Alien prequel but because the studio wouldn't give Ridley Scott enough money to do it he decided to do something separate.
Although considering I definitely saw the space jockey control panel in that trailer I guess he must have gone back on it.

Nope. He never went back on it. He was contracted to an Alien movie and the Lindelof script was much larger in scope than he had planned, so he changed the format, and coupled with abysmal sales on AvP2, he stated flatly he's not interested in retreading old ground. It's still an Alien movie, and context is king.
It could be a different space jockey ship. last time I saw, the planet the one crashed on in Alien and Aliens wasn't so sunny.
