So.. is this the (maybe) end of the 3ds era, and the next one will be switch? Because it seems like they threw everything in this one

Not maybe at all, pretty sure it was confirmed.
Weird that they are how they looked back before the events of the games they were in happened.
[editline]edit[/editline]
Gunna be fucking awesome to see Cyrus in full 3D though, favorite villain right there, hopefully they did a good job remixing his theme as well, because that shit was great.
Should have saved Team Rocket for Pokemon Switch.
3DS's last hurrah Pokemon wise, I think they should go all out.
I love the idea that Giovanni comes back not only with Mewtwo in his possession, but with all of the other teams under his control because he's just that commanding of a villain. It's a great service to such a classic character.

Pretty much

However, that process of improvement seems to have come to an end, with the upshot being that Game Freak will move on after the new games' release on November 17:
"With Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon," explains Ohmori, "we’ve tried to eke that out more and really, really push the system to its absolute limits, and we’re now feeling that perhaps this is the maximum of what we can get out. So we’re really treating Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon as the culmination of our work with the 3DS system."

I never understood the whole thing pokemon does where they add content to a game they already made, then resell it for full price. Anybody who bought the first version on launch gets screwed, having to buy the whole game again just to play what amounts to an expansion pack.

They havent actually done that for awhile. The last one they did, black/white 2, was a straight up sequel rather than a rehash/expansion pack of the first ones. Im fairly certain thats the case here as well, but someone correct me if im wrong.

And from Yellow all the way up to Black and White 2, they do about half as well.

Nope, this a retelling of the original story.
Interesting that Pokemon is a multiverse. A way to explain versions and remakes I guess
Also I just realized that Archie and Maxie are using their original outfits from the GBA games and not the redesigned versions.
Must be something to do with that whole multiverse thing too, which is probably why all of the villains are together in the first place, should be interesting.
To be honest the two grunts look like Gold and Kris, the former less so and the latter more so.
Rainbow Rocket doesn't sound very intimidating. :v:
I wonder if Giovanni was high or something when he thought of it.
This is like BW2 tiers of jamming everything into a Pokémon game one final time as a send off for an era/generation of Pokémon. Only thing that could make this better is if PSS returns and double battles don't tank the fuck out of the FPS. It'd be the definitive home-Pokémon game where you keep everything for a while.
I'm more interested though in how all these leaders with incredibly varied types of goals just decided to get together. Hell, why are even Maxie and Archie on the same team? How could their goals possibly align? Ghetsis wants to rule the world that Lysandre and Cyrus want to destroy. There must be a lot of infighting in the upper echelons of the organization.

I'm guessing that, after capturing Mewtwo, Team Rocket would move over to the Johto region and discover the legend of Ho-Oh and the Rainbow Wing.
Or more likely, it's a reference to how the first generation were named after colors from the rainbow, and the towns in Kanto were all colors.

well there's gotta be a good reason why this fucker ash meets all these kids at some point in the same world and stays the same age in the anime too so i'll settle for this

Most of the framerate issues come from the outline shader that they're using. If you disable outlines via game patching the framerate doesn't tank in nearly as many places, especially on an N3DS.

If they decided to change their name based on their original color, then "Red Rocket" would sound worse :v:
pretty cool.
I hope pokemon switch is another Coliseum game
or a game that spans all regions and when you complete one you can do a new game+ that is very well thought out. (your team starts back at level 5~, but you keep all your pokemon/items) and the difficulty scales.
There's kind of an issue with bringing back previous bad guys.
Giovanni: Ok enough, but he got his ass handed back to him in a timewarp event of HGSS. Most likely still has ambition after another year or so of planning.
Maxi/Archie: They learned their lessons after the massive natural disaster they caused and vowed to not do it again.
Cyrus: Lost to the Shadow Realm / Distortion World.
Ghetsis: Loses his mind after the last fight of BW2 and is unable to do much apparently.
Lysandre: Literally fucking DEAD.

I believe these versions of the characters are from alternative universes where they actually won.

So, Pokemon is going "They're Ultra Wormholes, we ain't gotta explain SHIT"?
So, Pokemon is going "They're Ultra Wormholes, we ain't gotta explain SHIT"?
Multiverses mang, it's been hinted at since OR/AS.
Multiverses mang, it's been hinted at in OR/AS I believe.
Yeah, but in OR/AS it was multiverses in the way that would explain the Ruby and Sapphire events happening at the same time.
But if they toss around ones where bad guys win, then give me a game where I can join Team Rocket.
Actually, even if you consider the bad guys winning:
- Giovanni is totally fine and rules Kanto
- Maxie and Archie both still agree that Natural Disaster world is a major OOPS. Or perhaps they DID manage to control the legendary with both orbs, and now there's more landmass / ocean around Hoenn and they're ok.
- Cyrus would've put the entirety of Sinnoh / DPP's world into the Distortion World
- Ghetsis would be fine ruling over Unova
- Lysander and Kalos / XY's world would've been nuked hardcore

I don't know specifics, but I'm sure it's more complicated than that otherwise they wouldn't be together, hell, perhaps they aren't even working together and each of them are plotting something big, or perhaps you travel through to the various worlds they rule over to take them on for some reason.
I believe these versions of the characters are from alternative universes where they actually won.
That kinda begs the question of why Archie and Maxie are still evil, though. Since when their plans are about to succeed in R/S/E they're already having second thoughts.
why is team rocket in charge? all they've done is build a few secret bases and hassle some people
team skull managed to stop the economic progress of an entire town and drive away all of its residents from their homes. they've basically accomplished more than any other villainous team in terms of maliciousness, and they're just a bunch of punks with no actual goal other than causing trouble
[editline]4th November 2017[/editline]
or team plasma, for that matter. they fucking froze an entire town
why is team rocket in charge?

Considering the nostalgia boner all of Alola has for Kanto if Team Skull had any sort of control they would likely hand it over to Team Rocket.
Well, now that I've actually watched the things, it's pretty obvious to me now that they're Ultra World bad guys, and not alternate timeline versions of the original games.
So, they'd all be alive because their reality probably didn't let them do what their ambitions are.
Or alternatively, Nintendo is just shoving them in there for the sake of having them there and there is no real reason in-universe for it.
