Not really sure if you could count the War of the Worlds broadcast, CBS made a big effort to make it obvious that it wasn't an actual news report, and the majority of people didn't fall for it at the time, the reaction to it was mostly exaggerated by newspapers to damage the reputation of radio news.

I suppose under their definition you could count that as trolling though.
