I don't know why anyone on the Internet pays attention to TV news. It is scare-tactic garbage for old people.
Sam Harris has really good points on these issues most of the time. The real question is what the fuck is Ben Affleck doing debating social/political issues?
Why is Ben Affleck on TV talking about Islams? Isn't he an actor?
Why is Ben Affleck on TV talking about Islams? Just because you've got nice tits, or a great body, or are really good at acting.. DOES NOT MAKE YOU SMART.
Is he not allowed to talk about those topics just because he's an actor? Actors are people too you know.

If he is passionate about world events and politics and feels he can talk about it to raise awareness of problems etc then good for him for caring enough to do it. Being an actor might not make him smart but it doesn't mean he's an idiot either.

Actors and celebrities aren't pre-programmed machines with only one purpose. They are people like anyone else, and plenty of them pay attention to global events. Anyone can have an interest in political or social issues, being an actor doesn't bar anyone from being involved in debates on those topics.
Is he not allowed to talk about those topics just because he's an actor? Wouldn't you question if Bill Maher had a manager from Walmart on to discuss foreign policy? Why does Afflecks job (or any actor) make them a expert on politics? Don't remember seeing Ted the plumber from Florida on any political shows.. (And before you make the argument that Affleck is smarter/higher IQ than plumbers, you might want to rethink that)
Why is Ben Affleck on TV talking about Islams? Isn't he an actor?
how is Bill Maher any more qualified he's a talking head what makes anyone qualified to have opinions and talk about them for that matter
He's allowed to do whatever he wants.. its Murica, BUT why does acting make him a expert on this? It's all down to someone and their knowledge on political and social issues that makes them any degree of informed on those issues. Again, actors are people like anyone else, as if they weren't already to you.
Bill Maher seems even less qualified than Ben anyway considering all he's doing is spouting racist shit
BUT why does acting make him a expert on this?
It doesn't. His knowledge/opinions on Islam is independent of his acting skills. Why do you think that just because he's an actor means he isn't allowed to do other things?
this just in- you cannot talk about films or music unless u make a career off being a filmmaker or a musician. or any art. or anything. if u are a doctor you are LITERALYL only allowed to talk about being a doctor. u cannot care about world events. u cannot care about other people. u cannot play games unless you make games. if u work as a taxi driver u cannot discuss anyting other than the latest taxi model
No one claimed he was an expert. It's all down to someone and their knowledge on political and social issues that makes them any degree of informed on those issues. Again, actors are people like anyone else, as if they weren't already to you.
lol, I knew I shouldn't put that "expert" part in.. you ignored my ENTIRE post and just focused on the word expert. You'd be pretty dumb and/or ignorant if you didn't know that the media/hollywood think they (as in actors/directors) have some special insight into the political realm. And I will repeat what I said... Thats why you've never seen a plumber, or a engineer, or a walmart manager etc... on a political show. Thats my point, sure Ben can say what he wants.. I'm not saying he's stupid.. but why is he more qualified than anyone else? because he makes big bucks playing in movies? I have a brother in law that is a geologist for a oil company.. he makes $300,000+ a year and is smarter then almost anyone else I know.. and I GUARANTEE he's got a WAY higher IQ then Affleck... but wouldn't you question if he was randomly on BIll Maher spouting his Christian viewpoint?
Is he not allowed to talk about those topics just because he's an actor? Actors are people too you know.
Yeah but is their opinion deemed important enough to be on a talk show Oh wait, their opinion isn't important, it just brings in more viewers.
Ben Affleck is a very famous actor/director with a good reputation. He's relevant. He's the star of the US #1 film right now. And he's a smart man who is interested in politics. That's why he's on the show and not the plumber next door. no one cares about the plumber next door cos no one has heard of him. Ben Affleck has millions of fans. It's a mix of ratings and discussion- they want someone on who is famous and will pull in viewers, but also someone who knows what they're talking about. Affleck fits that criteria.
lol, I knew I shouldn't put that "expert" part in.. you ignored my ENTIRE post and just focused on the word expert. There isn't much else to say to you. Ben Affleck was on the show because he's a celebrity, Bill Maher has celebrities and politicians on his show all the time. Special celebrity guests rake in more views. Being a celebrity doesn't make one's insight in anything special, as anyone with some constructive criticism could be seen the same way.
tbqh an actor's passion for things they care about is usually most of what makes them talented, it shouldn't be surprising for them to care about politics and things. i mean, if they weren't passionate about certain things then they wouldn't bring much to the table at all! imagine citizen kane if nobody cared. that would be the worst! [editline]6th October[/editline] but obviously sometimes they get really intense about stupid things

Nothing makes him qualified to talk on a political show. EXCEPT the fact that he's famous... So he should stick to what made him famous (hence my original post) NOW if the vehicle of his fame was his political view (like Bill Maher) then sure, keep talking about it. (And I know you will deny this) But if some actor got on some show and started talking about how bad muslims are, and how %40 of them are wife beating, child raping, animals.. then your viewpoint would be VERY different.
u are very wrong and I like how u literally just ignored my explaining the exact reason Ben Affleck was on this show with a passive dumb rating gg lmao
And thats my entire point. Nothing makes him qualified to talk on a political show. EXCEPT the fact that he's famous... All he does is shit on Islam, shit on religion, and spew his arrogant garbage. Also, no one should have to stick to what makes them famous, that's pretty close-minded. It isn't bad for actors to get involved with things outside of acting, because that shows that they're informed and it can also get other people involved in what's being discussed. Also also, my viewpoint would be pretty different if someone went on a show and slandered a religion and its people in a bigoted manner because that's just wrong. People who commit those acts are not representative of an entire demographic, and anyone who believes otherwise is an idiot. Someone being a celebrity does not make them immune to criticism and it definitely does not shield them from hatred warranted by anything negative they might say or do.
u are very wrong and I like how u literally just ignored my explaining the exact reason Ben Affleck was on this show with a passive dumb rating gg lmao
Well I wasn't really talking to you in any of this.. but if you need the attention. your whole point is Affleck is a famous person, with lots of fans, and he's interested in politics... and he knows about politics.. Well first off. the fact that he "knows" about it..is just a matter of opinion. 2nd, maybe the plumber is interested in politics also. so really it gets down to this.. he's on the show because he has lots of fans. Which will make me reiterate my original point. he has fans because he made movies like paycheck and daredevil (lol). NOT because he has political views.. now if he rose to fame because of his political views (see bill Maher, Bill O'reilly etc..) then sure, state your opinion. But just because you have a pretty face, doesn't mean you know shit about politics. I don't see Bill Maher inviting Phillip Defranco on his show to talk politics.. and Phillip defranco probably has 4x the fans that Affleck does. so to boil down your argument again.. fame = knowledge. YOU are the problem with this country.

Also, don't even try to pull the whole "lol he made daredevil and paycheck". That kind of argument can be applied to anyone in any situation no matter what. People can change and they are not permanently tainted because they did one bad thing in the past or did a crappy job on something a few years back.

See, you're the problem with this nation. You fuel xenophobia and indulge in it. Have you forgotten how many Muslim or even vaguely Arab/middle-eastern looking people have been killed out of retaliation for 9/11? In the US alone, mind you. Simply because they were assumed to be arabic? Or were wearing a turban? Did you not learn about the crusades? Do you know what the reconquista is? Do you also understand that there are people who claim to represent a demographic and only commit actions that sully the name of said demographic? Oh wait, you're just trolling. Nevermind.

It still doesn't take away from the fact that people from numerous religions and cultures have also committed crimes in the name of their religion or culture. There are also those in different cultures, who are in different religious groups, who also have negative opinions about others when it comes to their beliefs, political affiliations, opinions on gender and sexual orientation, and other hot topics. Anyone can be any kind of person, no matter what doctrine they follow.

Things have changed in the last 900 years.

(also he's like TOTALLY revitalised his career in the last 8 or so years he has directed 3 very acclaimed films, 2 of which he starred in, one of them a Best Picture winner, and has starred in well recieved films including right now Gone Girl which is being acclaimed as one of the best film of 2014 so yea) He has fans because he's an actor/director. Yes. That means he has people interested in what he has to say. Are you not allowed to be interested in cinema and politics? (well according to you, you can only know about literally 1 thing so idk if that was a good question lol) idk who Philip DeFranco is but if he is famous then he has a chance of being on the show. That's so dumb??? There are MILLIONS of celebrities in the world. he can't get them all on his show. Obviously. Also no one was talking about Ben Affleck's looks, way to attack me for an argument I didn't even make. I also never ONCE said fame=knowledge. I said he is smart AND famous. That's a good mix for a talk show that invites celebrities on. he can bring in an audience and have good debate. also im not even American so I cannot possibly be an issue with America lmao
