While I agree the GDQ staff can be a bit anal, this guy's arguments are weak as hell and he knows it too. Asking the guy accused of doing something if he did it, taking "no" as the final answer, and then going on to try and downplay it as "just pulling out a power strip" cause even he knows his "source" is garbage. Not that it's some huge thing to ban for, but if someone decided to just unplug random crap at an event that didn't belong to him, yeah, I'd remove him too, as it shows a disrespect for the property or what the plug was used for, on top of the fact that it seems GDQ had a history with this guy with the entire "don't goto AGDQ tomorrow", on top of acting horribly offended when GDQ told him not to make jokes of that when their staff and runners were supposedly being threatened. Like, I think the GDQ staff is overly strict and hypocritical and overprotective of toxic streamers that contribute nothing but whining and bitching and raiding people who are uninvolved in controversies. AND I agree that the abns handed out are primarily dumb, and rumours spreading without any proof of their own is dumb. But the video is primarily taking stuff out of context and framing it as SJWs coming to ruin our gaming, then backing it up with, of course, words from the people banned from the event defending themselves, as if they wouldn't.
I know people love to make a huge deal out of the bonesaw thing because his run was great and so getting banned over it sucks, but really I'm not that surprised by it. idk if it's even worth bringing up owen wilson or 'language' (the clip just showed him saying "shut up"?? was there something more he said?) cause if there was something that would've for sure gotten him banned it obviously would've been him telling everyone live on stream to go spam tweets at an airline's twitter account lol. Granted he was obviously caught up in the moment and was quick to retract it, and they got lucky and nothing bad came from it, but even so it was still dumb and I wasn't surprised by the outcome. It's a multi-million dollar charity stream with lots of hyper kids watching, lets not give them any ideas and end up getting some seriously bad press thrown it's way, thx!! And then there's the issues with chat. I've been on chat before whenever someone who is different is on stream and it's always the same shit. Like when Blechy is on and the result is chat getting flooded by toxic kids just spamming midget jokes nonstop. I really didn't care at all that they made it sub only this time around because yeah that shit is dumb, and making it sub only certainly cuts out the dumb spastic kids from the equation. Granted I never use the fucking thing but I get that they wouldn't want some journalist to just happen to pop in to look at things right as chat is getting flooded by hateful shit, and then have them write some dumb article on it lol. They gotta maintain appearances somewhat. As for that complaint about downer donation messages... uhhhhh no? If they're donating to charity and have personal stories they want to share real fast, then I certainly don't care if they're depressing lol. I've seen GDQ speed runners mid-stream who told serious stories about losing (or nearly losing?) their dad to cancer once. I'm perfectly fine with it, fuck worrying about "killing the mood" why is that even being mentioned fucking hell idk what he was trying to get at tho with all the tangents about trans people at GDQ, and all this talk about how many there are and how one of them in particular is bad or whatever. Ok??? i don't care lol. But god damn some of that other shit that got mentioned was pretty fucking retarded lmao. that maga hat shit, like seriously someone fuckin tell the prick to show the screenshot because that is just ridiculous. And that 'no swearing!' rule does seem silly when I was watching them playing resident evil 7 earlier, which features one of the Baker's screaming "FUCK" right up in the players face lol. Granted I get they want to keep up appearances and not have things devolve too much, but I don't think they need to go full on G rated with it, especially if it's at a time when the game is anything but that. also yea that guy at the very end at 15:00, saw that happen live and was wondering if that was gonna come up here. Yeaaa don't give a shit about him getting banned lol. What a ridiculous reaction. overall the few valid points this vid makes get pretty heavily over-shadowed by mostly pretty terrible ones imo
Yeah GDQ is overly strict and make some desicions that most people who watch it dislike, but also theyve stopped being a niche group of people to a large company thats making millions for charity, I definetly understand them not wanting any political clothing or swearing, even if I personally wish otherwise.
This year's AGDQ actually felt way more laid back and fun. I missed a chunk of it due to work, but what I did watch seemed more relaxed. Especially the awful games block. Sub only chat still sucked, though.
or 'language' (the clip just showed him saying "shut up"?? was there something more he said?)
For the sake of completeness, Bonesaw said "fuck" 3 times during the run. Apollo Legend has a decent video documenting the incident. [sp]all I want is more Bonesaw vs Patty :([/sp]
I don't know why everybody gets up in arms over the chat being locked, all it is is a incomprehensible stream of endless spam and yelling "cringe!!!11!!" every time anybody speaks. There's zero productive output or decent audience reactions from it.

If you are expecting a productive output from a chat with hundreds of thousands of participants, you are delusional. Trying to police it in the anal nazi way that GDQ does just accomplishes the exact opposite. That was proven by Trihex' povertychat, which was an absolute blast despite having minimal moderation. GDQ tries to be a family safe event on a venue that is about as un-family safe as you can get. That's the crux of the problem. They're trying to appeal to a mainstream TV crowd, and they're pushing away the actual crowd that made GDQ big. This event is eventually going to implode on itself because it's trying really hard to be something it isn't.
i just wanna watch people play video games fast
I think there are bigger issues with gdq than them being killjoys, the good runs are good runs but the event as a whole feels like more and more of a sham every time it's held
i just wanna watch people play video games fast
gotta go fast?

You can’t hear the individual voices or conversations but the excitement and mood carries through in spite of that. There’s something fun about watching something with Twitch Chat I can’t really explain very well. I’ll give the people saying it that the chat during AGDQ is usually really bad, but I feel like without chat altogether I’m missing something integral to the experience. Moreover I get kind of upset when people say like “it’s good the chat was in sub mode because chat is awful” when the people who have problems with it can literally click a button to close it and not have to see it. Let cancerous edgy children spam emotes if they want. No need to completely deny everybody’s fun or enjoyment to spite half of them.

http://gdqstat.us/?series=0 http://gdqstat.us/previous-events/agdq-2017/ The main gripe I have with GDQ is the terrible technical side.

All this talk about repeatable chat spam makes me wonder what would happen if you had a twitch chat with r9k rules
All this talk about repeatable chat spam makes me wonder what would happen if you had a twitch chat with r9k rules
r9k mode already exists in twitch chat
God the fucking comments Basically 30% of them can be summarized as "I hate trans people" and I'm trying to figure out where all the hate is coming from
God the fucking comments Basically 30% of them can be summarized as "I hate trans people" and I'm trying to figure out where all the hate is coming from
Don't read GDQ related youtube comments. I saw some of the worst transphobic shit ive ever read online in them. I'll spare you the details, but there's just pure hate, detailed deaths threats, and not just a few times. They had to disable them on videos with trans runners, because it was that vile. It's pretty fucking sad how a charity event attracts theses kind of people, there's entire circles of people dedicated to ruign GDC and be as edgy and hateful as possible. And I can really understand the decisions GDQ takes to protect staff and runners from this shit.
Its pretty clear that GDQ went from "Speedrunning first, Charity second" to "Charity first, Speedrunning second". And you cant blame them for it, they found a good way to raise money and started to focus more on that. I did enjoy the video tho, and i liked that he interviewed more than one (now banned) runner. Proto blaming DansGaming for the DanSexy emote spam and saying that not only the emote, but DansGaming too should get banned, is still one of the funniest things to me.
God the fucking comments Basically 30% of them can be summarized as "I hate trans people" and I'm trying to figure out where all the hate is coming from
It's because the alt-right part of the internet thinks that every transgendered person in existence is actually just a tweenaged Tumblr trans-trender acting out as a money scheme or for attention. Pushing drama and virtue signaling. That's like calling every conservative voter a bible-basher or a clansman. They exist, but they hardly make an impact in the grand scheme of things. They just only get that when it's directed at their retarded selves.

I hope he does it again next GDQ it was a treat being there.
-snip i'm an idiot, the video i linked is mentioned in op's video-
Okay, I didn't know that. What is it like? :v:
I have the impression that it's very slow. Sometimes it works, but most of the time it doesn't, especially if there's something like 400 people in the chatroom. Most copypasta gets past it, no matter what you do.
What is even the value of twitch chat looking for good comments is like watching a sewer drain for a gold ring that's been flushed down a toilet, it's never going to happen and you're just going to miss it.
Okay, I didn't know that. What is it like? :v:
It's no different than normal. They copy paste a thing and then add "123" to bypass it.

when I first heard about this I thought they where just locking everyone out, but the more I looked at it, the whole thing just boiled down to there being a few trans people running, and whenever they came on the chat would go crazy with transphobic cancer and when people get banned/chat gets turned sub only people cry out safe space
