-not a good post-
I felt bad that they almost got that pole stuck on him.
Big cats are so awesome. I just wish there was a way to somehow communicate to the cougar that they were just trying to help it, it's such a thankless job.
Amazing creatures mountain lions are. I remember coming face to face with one in Arizona while I was hiking around in a ravine near my old apartment, and just the tremendous power those cats put in their steps is just absolutely awe striking.
I thought this was going to be an actual cat, not a fucking puma. Are those legal to trap?
I thought this was going to be an actual cat, not a fucking puma. Are those legal to trap?
Depends on state, county, ect. Most of the time, no. Problem is though, is that traps are inherently first come, first serve... You tend to get mountain lions in traps all the time.
I felt bad that they almost got that pole stuck on him.
I think he did that on purpose because there was no other way of safely releasing him while being that close to it. Loosening the loop and leaving it on for the cat to get it off by itself is better than removing it while next to him and possibly getting mauled.
Man I love how it just blew up that branch
Possibly stupid question, but why didn't they just tranq the poor animal before attempting releasing it? It would seem it'd be alot safer for both parties.
I was kind of afraid that it was gonna tear off it's front toes. It was very strong. I wouldn't be surprised if it was a case of they didn't have tranqs available for use because of said underfunding.

You need a very precise amount to knock it out without killing it, and with many you need very precise delivery. With a bad shot or a bad dose, you either just piss it off, or kill it. They're also pretty tightly controlled because most tranquilizers are opioid derivatives - usually stronger (!) than morphine or heroin.
I found this video very heart-warming.
