Why does she have her headset adjusted so unequally?
Where can I buy that poster
edit: my heart goes out to this female and her bad experience
She makes a good point, alot of creeps are attracted to cons for a variety of reasons and in turn shit like this happens with sexual harassment/etc as security tends to turn a blind eye. Its a shame WonderCon has to put "cosplay is not consent" posters like its a college campus, but shit like this unfortunately happens.
Example stories of general creeps:
-Friend of mine and her boyfriend went as a Pokemon Trainer/Umbreon duo. Some fat twat got real close to her in terms of rubbing shoulders and asked if she, and I quote: "was furry, you wanna get yiffy in my room with me and your boy-toy upstairs?". She and her boyfriend said no and just got away from him, while he followed for a solid 30 mins.
-Me and my ex did a duo years ago, and needless to say whilst just shopping merch. Some really musty guy just gave her a random hug, said "I wish I had your body", and proceeded to walk off.
Its alarming what kind of people come out of the woodwork at cons.
i'm surprised people at anime/game cons even have the balls to do stuff like this
with the whole shut in/nerd stereotype and all
I don't get these kinds of people, it's sexual assault and it's within your legal right to lay a royal smackdown on their ass.
Also those guards need to be fucking sued.
From what it sounds like, a good portion of that con's staff need to be sacked.
iirc momocon staff interrupted panels in the middle of speakers' sentences to advertise their app and to tell people to rate it 5 stars or something
basically the whole thing was a shitshow

pretty sure that stereotype still applies. being shut-in leads to being socially inept which leads to fat sweaty nerds sexually harassing anything that has breasts and breathes.
legit disgusting, I had a friend who goes to cons and cosplays and she has had to deal with creeps in the past.
Jeez girl, cover your cleavage!
I can't even begin to imagine what it must feel like to be harassed at a convention, let alone being a girl being harassed.
Very sad to hear she had a bad experience. People like this need to realize that they aren't their favourite characters/waifus. They are also nerdy fans just like them, no matter what they look like/dress up as.
Sexual assault is never okay. If you want a photo, ask. If you want a hug, ask (And please for Christ shake shower). Most importantly, treat them as they want to be treated.
I just recently got back from Phoenix Comicon this weekend, and they had, "Cosplay is not consent" items all over their website and convention. From what I've heard/seen, there was not a lot of harassment at the Con (Thankfully).
That hotel is hip as fuk though.
So a couple years ago, I went to a con dressed up as Dave Strider from Homestuck. It wasn't a good costume: Jeans, a t-shirt, dollar-store shades, and a lovingly-crafted styrofoam-and-cardboard Caledscratch. I had my picture taken a few times, and later on found a picture of myself on Tumblr (very flattering!). It was a total blast, and I'd love to go cosplaying again! Hopefully next time I'll put more effort into it.
So despite that, there was one small incident that bothered me. I had just gotten off an escalator, and there were a group of Homestuck fans (some in costume, some just in t-shirts). They asked to take some pictures, invited me to a meetup, and then one of them grabbed my sword and started rubbing it. I got really uncomfortable and left quickly (fortunately I had a group of friends to run off to).
I'm a guy, and I was probably older than all of the people from that group. It wasn't even (overtly) sexual, they didn't even touch me personally, but I was still weirded and creeped out. I don't think any of the group were even acting maliciously, they just didn't realize that it was a violation of my space. I'm 100% for cosplay!=consent movements/media: If any of the above facts weren't true, my experience would have been worse. And maybe if they had been told this was a problem, they would have been more thoughtful.
Aside: What is she cosplaying?

What do you mean by rubbing it?
Sounds pretty predictable for the lowest common denominator of the Homestuck fandom to try to make some kind of innuendo and end up revealing their power level and making every one around them thoroughly uncomfortable.
and thats why i don't cosplay and go to cons much anymore. its just generally a mess from what i recall, personal stuff. hope she's okay.

As someone who goes to several cons a year, you got off easy.
Every con I go to there is a homestucker ruining the pool with their body paint, destroying rooms, assaulting other homestuckers (usually sexually), causing scenes or just being a public nuisance.
I don't read homestuck but I'm told that kind of behavior is prevalent in the characters (im sorry if i'm incorrect here) so that combined with the average age of homestuck cosplayers (middleschool to early highschool) you get some fuckheads who don't realize they're being fuckheads.
One of my female friends went to a con party once and ended up being nearly molested by a drunk female homestucker who later found out was 15.
Perhaps unrelated, but whenever I go to conventions I just go in, buy what I want and get out (yes I go for the merch and art, sue me.) I don't know, I am fine with crowds but when I am in a convention I just want to leave as soon as possible... something just feels wrong. Anybody else feel that way or is it just me?
I've never actually been to one because I don't like anime/manga (I haven't been to any conventions actually), but I have seen pictures/heard experiences and to me anime conventions seem pretty terrible.
I mean call me a cunt for saying this but they seem like they'd be filled with the kind of people you do not want to associate with. Like a place where people will touch you and fondle you just because you're wearing a costume is not a place I'd like to be.
What do shitlords have to sexually harass and borderline molest these girls. Like what the fuck is your train of thought? It just seems like common sense that you don't fucking grope at someone.
Stop creeping out the hot cosplay girls you're ruining it for everyone else. Appreciate, don't touch.
Probably a inability to realize what they're doing is wrong.
probably raised poorly or a social disorder.
that or they're just an asshole.
Like I've met plenty of introverts and shut-ins (particularly on facepunch) and they aren't all sex crazed weirdo's, it takes a special type of irregular person to do thing's like this.

conventions are 90% terrible experiences and missed opportunities to actually do shit because you're stuck wrangling 5+ friends up to do something everybody wants
still fun tho
cosplayers put lots of time into making neat stuff and it's no secret that there's a ton of assholes out there who expect cons to be an orgy, and as such cosplayers (especially those who take risks with showing some skin) are their biggest targets because a cosplayer with huge investment in going to a con somehow means they're totally onboard with the creep's orgy expectation.
I knew a guy who actually hosted a 'dating at cons' panel that got him booted halfway through it because it became VERY apparent the whole thing was quite literally a guide to date rape manipulation. You find a LOT of dudebros who'll flat out tell you, if you can't get laid each night at a con you're not trying hard enough. it's fucking creepy and I don't know who some of these guys could even manage to hook up with, unless it's raver girls they personally drugged at the late night events
beyond straight up creepers like that, you still have a LOT of weebs with no sense of personal space, who'll 'glomp' first and ask questions later. I've heard some horror stories of someone getting legit paralyzed because someone tackle-hugged them from behind because they were cosplaying their favorite character or something. You get all levels of weirdo who can't separate fantasy from reality and think the con atmosphere is licence to be all handsy like you would with your closest friends, you get awkward people who (really blatantly) 'trip' to grope somebody, or just slap an ass as they walk by because they don't see it being wrong
and as for cosplay is not consent, I recall a girl in a kill la kill cosplay posing with one of those signs, and it was very commonly shared along with a screenshot of it on 4chan with a bunch of people tearing into how 'she isn't one to speak', doxxing her info and posting her tumblr (with lots of nude selfies) all over the place. I hope poe's law stood firm and they were doing it to emphasize the irony
cons overall are a blast and there really is a (mild) sense of community and "we're all friends here", but situations can be flipped pretty fast if you run into the shittier inhabitants.
I hope people realize a woman should be able to walk down the street naked and you still don't have the right to touch her (unless you're the police officer arresting her for public nudity then you kinda have to i guess).
like the idea of "oh my god she's showing a bit of skin that must mean she WANTS IT" is a really dumb outdated way of thinking.
I go to cons fairly regularly, there are a bunch of weirdos. However, 95% of the people there are cool, the best thing to do is back off or let con staff know if someone is harassing you.
conventions are 90% terrible experiences and missed opportunities to actually do shit because you're stuck wrangling 5+ friends up to do something everybody wants
I am glad I learned this before PAX East, I went with some people who had never been to a con before and they wanted to stick in a group. Since I was the only one cosplaying I said I'd just be at X, Y, Z if I can make it; trying to remain in a group is the worst thing at a con even if you are super good friends. It is better to just split up and have everyone do their own thing but "try" and meet up.
I've always wanted to go to a convention, but I never had had the guts to go on my own. Thanks to ticket sales and friends to share it with, I'm going to Otakon for the first time. I'm still a nervous as fuck, but hopefully by July things will be different.
