Looks like they copy / pasted most of the assets from Oblivion tbh. A lot of those establishing shots didn't look very good imo

Yeah that's pretty much it from what i can gather, they never said it was going to be like Skywind, I.E a complete and total recreation with completely original assets, this is more like say, Fallout 3 in Fallout New Vegas with TTW.
But instead of it being the same engine (which it "technically" is but semantics), it's Oblivion ported into Skyrim's updated Creation engine (with all of it's new features) instead, with some touch-ups here and there, with some original assets mixed in which is also why it's taken far less time to make comparatively to Skywind.

Found the official higher quality video.
It looks cool, but personally I'd rather mod Oblivion if I want to explore a prettier Cyrodiil. I need that clunkiness from the original game.
the lighting looks worse than oblivion in some scenes, like that anvil shot. way too much contrast
I think it looks worth a playthrough for sure though Skyrim's gameplay just can't compete with Oblivion's in my opinion. The combat in skyrim is slightly more complex, but as someone who pretty much always plays a mage, dual wielding magic is so not worth it when it meant losing the ability to just use the 'C' button to cast and wield whatever weapon you want in your main hand. Not to mention probably no spellcrafting.

Last I checked I believe they have that feature figured out and Skyblivion will come with Spellcrafting, but don't quote me on that.

Also apparently they found a way to make quick casting a thing again, presumably using the thu'um button I assume.

At least with this method, it'll be finished much quicker. It'll take way, WAY too long to make from scratch.
It took me a minute to realize it is not doing a "Before and After"

Hey man, I still find Oblivion's world space pretty even to this day.

Oh shit for real
can they just go ahead and give me the UI and quick casting as independent mods for Skyrim??
Oh wow, they're doing Shivering Isles too? I wonder if they'll include the Mehrune's Dagon dungeon as well.
For some reason the water effects in this don't look good, like it's literally those from Oblivion.
The Imperial City looks exactly like in Oblivion, which means it lacks detail for modern standards, but some places in the wild/mountains seemed reworked and looked much better.
I'm not sure how much they want to rework but it'd be nice to make it a public release while they figure things out, unlike Skywind.
Is that a wholly original song in the video?
I recall them saying this is more of a preservation project than something like a full remake.
They're working on having mods made for oblivion work on this as well.

Which Dungeon?
Which Dungeon?
I think he means the Mehrunes Dagon DLC quest, with Mehrunes Dagger.
Not a huge fan of the lighting and some of the foliage, the atmosphere which the original game had seem sorta damaged because of it
Oblivion is one of my favorite games of all time despite its obvious flaws, so I’m sure I’ll love this despite any of its flaws.
This looks great and all but if it's just reusing the assets of Oblivion, why not just play that?
Honest question since I haven't played Oblivion to completion yet and would like to after I am done with Skyrim.
Should I play this or just the original version? They seem identical.

If you happen to prefer Skyrims gameplay or just want a new way to explore a world you love, it looks really cool. Not to mention it'll present an available framework for more worldspace for new mods, imagine Cyrodill but in a different timeframe entirely from Oblivion, with its own host of quests and adventures to go on!

This has always been their style: convert 99% of the content into the next engine.
It made alot of sense for morrow-blivion because morrowind's greatest weakness was its jank combat, but I agree the direct import makes little sense for oblivion to skyrim.
Maybe you really have to play it yourself to appreciate the engine upgrades.
..Speaking of which, where the fuck is the 1000x times more engaging MORROW-RIM / SKY-WIND ?

The different time frame in cyrodill, but on skyrims engine exists, its called beyond skyrim cyrodil, which already has bruma out

Side note but I want to mention that Morrowind's greatest strengths compared to its successors are its attention to detail in dialogue, equipment, magic and enchant systems, things that will definitely suffer in the port.
Looks a little better, the lighting and foliage definitely does, but it's all the same models it looks like, I've been playing Oblivion a lot recently with mods, but I wouldn't swap to this. It's just a shame Oblivion can't take use of more than 2gb of ram, 4gb with a patch.
I wouldn't mind Bethesda doing a pure remaster but I may be wrong but they said it wasn't happening
Visually nice, but not enough to make the swap. Skyrim never really grabbed me.

They did a decent job in morroblivion.
Dialogue just had 10x the amount of options to compensate for that special "ask me about" system.
Equipment/magic/spell effects were converted rather seamlessly because oblivion basically had it built in.. A freedom that the steaming pile known as Skyrim made a point to take away from the player.
Shite.. I think I have to play morroblivion through, again.

It's from the Oblivion soundtrack...
I meant the one after that, at 2:11 onwards
Yeah they have a composer.
Lol you can tell they are using cubemap reflections for the water because at 0:07 the reflection doesn't match up with the moving imagery.
I don't get how bethesda fucked up the realtime reflections in skyrim and FO4.
Also apparently someone from skyrim together said he was looking forward to testing this in it, so it may be playable in that - coop oblivion would be a pretty good reason to play this i think.

I mean shit i could look past some of my problems with skyrim for functioning MP
