Skip to 8:50 for the sting
He caught that thing like a boss after it stung him though.
Absolute madman :nope:
What a nasty little creature. It's like some strange combination of an ant and a wasp.

Watching the whole video, I guess it is a wasp.
He's got some top notch self control there. Even as a volunteer in a controlled area, I'd find myself trying to smash the little fucker after it stung me.
I almost find it almost unbelievable that such a tiny little thing that only seemed like he stabbed him all but a millisecond has caused this much immediate pain. That's truly a terrifying thing oh lord.
based on his reaction, I find it hard to believe that the velvet ant ranks equally to a paper wasp on the pain index, based on what people have told me about paper wasps anyway
I see these little things all the time in the sticks of Virginia.
They're not aggressive, whenever I've been around them they've always scampered away from me.
But WOW that immediate reaction.
He also got chomped on by a gila monster:

Not sure what would be worse. Gila monsters have a nasty reputation in Arizona for having bites that some war veterans equated to being shot a few times in the same area.
Seriously man, Arizona's wildlife will fuck you up if you let your guard down.

That's because ants are in the same order as bees and wasps (Hymenoptera) so they're closely related.
Clearly, there is more wasp than ant in its genetic coding.

Wasps are literally flying ants.
Watching it extend and retract the stinger over and over and seeing how long it is.. This guy is wild.
I'm in east Tennessee and I caught one of these on my front porch like 2 weeks ago.
Mine had two heart shapes on its back and I thought it was really cute.
Kept it in a bottle on my desk for a few days then I let it go in my yard.
These are badass little things, so much so that scientists are actually trying to figure out what it evolved to defend themselves from.
Also they actually walk in active bee nests and lay their eggs and walk right back out.

Have to admit, despite being absolutely intimidating, they are cute; they're just so floofy.
Then you have the thistledown velvet ant, which is just maximum fluff.

Obviously, you still wouldn't want to fuck with these things at all but at least you can admire from a distance.

Why is it that the more adorable/colorful that an insect is, the more ferocious or aggressive or pumped full of painful toxin they likely are?
Like the Cobalt Blue Tarantula. Lovely looking but is super aggressive and their bites are painful.

I genuinely love how clickbaity the titles seem, yet they deliver all the time.
I once had the luxury of wandering into a giant bull ant's nest. A most pleasant affair.
In Mexico I accidentally brushed a tree nesting some fire ants that had fallen onto my shoulder, all of a sudden I felt like my shoulder exploded and was burning. My family came and saw that i had like 3 fire ants and five bite marks on my shoulder. I'm so glad I was young enough to barely remember

People have Cobalt Blue Tarantulas for pets. Why?
