A video from RnL mod's December 1st update. 3D audio demonstrated with offensive voice noise :v:

"You scrawny, ratty-ass CUNT!"
Would be cool to see this incorporated into L4D2. Would encourage teams to stick together even more.
I've imagined something like this put into source for a long time. Seems like this will be pretty fun to mess around with
That's really cool. Now if only they could increase the quality of voice chat.
Too bad its a shit game with crappy anims.
It's just his microphone. When he yells aggressively it gets static. Playing with him while he's yelling profanities at Germans is fun.

lol
I'm sure it'll eventually have perks, hardcore mode and weapon unlocks so you can be appeased.
Also, welcome to the mod community. If you decide to give us money we'll consider your stupid suggestions and crude criticisms.
Imagine if his mic wasn't absolute shit. This is tons of potential for immersiveness.
I made a thread about something like this a while back...
I remember when I was playing this mod with my friends. We were in a group of 5 or so and we were just going back and forth from prone so it made us look like we were doing the worm. All the while one of us had hldj loaded and was playing billie jean.
Then two nazis came around the corner and stood there. We turned to them, still doing our pushup dance. Then they just walked away.
Would a SourceMod script be able to do this? If so, it would be rather good and immersive for games.
lol full metal jacket
This honestly seems kind of useless, considering how this would require you to stay close at all times for communications.
Are you also planning on lowering the alpha for text communications depending on distance?
Ending reminded me of SourceMod Todd, hilarious.

Derp, that was kind of the point. The alpha versions have no radioman class, so the teamside text is heard by everybody. In game chat is radius based (usually 1024 unit radius) and everybody can see it if they are within that radius. In later versions there will be a radioman class, allowing squad leaders within a certain radius of the radioman, be able to talk with the other squads on the team. You can also hear your enemies talk, so it really enhances the communication aspect of the game, considering you can listen in on enemy conversations, and use your shrill prepubescent war cry to put fear into the hearts of enemy players.
it would be cool if the team shared how they did this by providing the code.
I thought this was already in tf2...
Left 4 Dead sometimes had this kind of thing on for 2 or 3 seconds at the beginning of the maps for me.
This can both be mixed with directional sound AND server-wide reception. It's even better than what we have now as you can identify where the user is transmitting from instead looking for his outline.

On a different note: Is the mod any good?
I bet this sounds hilarious when a 9 year old is behind a microphone.
this would be great in realism games
I always wondered why this wasn't in certain games. I think the enemy should be able to hear you, as well
Reminds me of

I loved when he charged the house. Also "Come in... OH GOD".

That was the wierdest sensation i've felt, at one point it felt as though my hair was actually being cut.
Oooh this is what I've always dreamed of!
ALLAH AKBAR! :happyelf:
I have always wondered, why noone ever did this before. its awesome. But what I would love to see is minimalistic face movement. No real lip synch mimics, but at least an open, randomly moving mouth when a player uses the mic. It would get weird, if some annoying cunt started to play music, though,

Goldensource had that. I remember seeing a video of TFC where a game character moved his mouth along with the player talking. Funny to see a trolled player spewing insults at you through his character.
That reminds me when HL1 characters used a keypad, the button beeps came from them instead of the keypad lock.

When I was first watching the video I got distracted and minimized it, but the audio kept playing.. when the door knock sound started I actually thought someone was at my door and I yelled "Come in!"
All source games need this, It would very useful in TF2 for example, if you had both global and local (with 3d positional audio) voicechat. That way, if you need help with something, you could use local chat so only people near you would hear you and they'd know where you are.

I can't think of any first person shooter game this wouldn't be good in.
The possibilities are endless! Eavesdropping would be possible and awesome!

It becomes and acquired taste, because it has a brutal learning curve. I've got lots of videos on my youtube page if you want to see gameplay of somebody as awesome as myself :v:
