Is there something I'm not seeing here? It's just voiced, the intro, and sonic has a scarf. Or is that the point? Does shit get more glitchy later on?
I would actually just kill myself before reaching the end of the first level.

Because Sonic doesn't need a character redesign or voice acting or any of that shit, it just needs to be a game about going left to right super fast.
now if it was this plus the amount of rings in sonic 2
oh my god "One more ring to rule them all!" "I love rings!" "It's like their drawn to me!" "Rings!" "You can never grab too many rings!" MAKE IT STOP AHHHHHHH

I wouldn't blame anyone to find this annoying after the first minute of gameplay. It doesn't help that RoL's writing was such fucking garbage and the voicelines show it, too.

It's not fair to blame someone for trusting another who genuinely says they're going to do a good job and then doesn't. Overall though, voice acting in Sonic games can be (and has been) done right, especially with newer games where they replaced that awful 4kids brand VA team. Between classic and modern Sonic's visual design (not counting Sonic Boom ofc), I think it shows a decent divide between what was ideal in the early 90's and what was ideal nearing the 2000's era without going overboard. You can still tell it's Sonic with the same basic design, just slimmer with specific more defined features. His personality more or less stayed the same as well, you just couldn't entirely notice it without a voice to go with it. Looking at older media though that DOES have voice acting (Sonic CD movie, all the old cartoons, etc.) you can see it's pretty damn similar to his attitude in a modern setting. Sonic Boom was an extreme mistake and I feel bad for Sonic Team. Really, Sonic Boom didn't just hurt them, it probably hurt the entire Japanese and NA game market relations thing as a whole, because a Japanese team trusted a NA team with their IP and they just shat all over it, giving other Japanese game companies reason not to trust NA developers on already shaky ground. Beyond all of this though, I think if Sonic Team went back to the original formula style, just.. Straight up like how the Genesis/Mega Drive games were like you mentioned, you'd still have people complaining that they're just rehashing old shit or something else stupid. When it comes to Sonic, you can't make anyone happy, and whatever step Sonic Team makes, there's going to be a slew of people pissed about it or using it as some sort of joke at their expense. It could be something fucking amazing that literally everyone is asking for and there's still going to be some tsunami of assholes who're upset about it for one reason or another or think its ~just another desperate move by Sega~ Even if they killed the franchise. It wouldn't matter. They're locked into being hated by x amount of people regardless of their actions due to past bad games and a horrible fanbase.

Probably due to Lost World underperforming hard so they wanted out fast. So not only did they have to create a game that, honestly, would've probably been painfully average in the first place, but they also had to rework and reoptimize Cryengine of all things by themselves for a system that only EA got it working for and never released proof of their claims thereof. And other evidence points towards the fact that the game wasn't even meant to be Sonic Boom originally but got slapdashed in alongside the cartoon and the 3DS game, all of which conflict with eachother because there was no cohesion in the overall project whatsoever. Big Red Button would've probably never blown our minds in the first place but Rise of Lyric was basically doomed once SEGA started yanking the devs around without warning.
The framerate is wayy too stable for it to be Sonic Boom. When Sonic goes through a loop I expect the framerate to tank into single digits.

If you do anything in that game, odds are a character will comment on it. Whether it be pick up a ring, use a jump spring, or even just use a character's regular ability. It gets very annoying very fast.
