As the State's power base, Raqqa is where it imposes its version of Sharia law throughout large swaths of Iraq and Syria. The “Hisbah” are the new Sharia police. In the latest episode of The Islamic State, VICE News joins them on their daily patrols during Ramadan, and witnesses how they check on shops and scrutinize produce, while at the same time ensuring their strict rules on women’s appearances are adhered to.
The way these people behave, it's starting to remind me a little bit like North Korea.
They're surprisingly friendly, considering the pervasive implied threat of violent death for petty "infractions".
I'd be scared shitless of these people if I was a candymaker in the IS.
They're surprisingly friendly, considering the pervasive implied threat of violent death for petty "infractions".
Tho I really hate when people use that fucking "friendly" tone when asking you to do something. It's nicer then expected but still irritable.

It's infuriating seeing that holier-than-thou attitude,as if they think they're better than you.
Anyone up for a Crusade again?
They're surprisingly friendly, considering the pervasive implied threat of violent death for petty "infractions".
no lengthy prison sentences and whipping for pretty infractions. Its really bad, but lets not exaggerate our latest bogeymen.
no lengthy prison sentences and whipping for pretty infractions. Its really bad, but lets not exaggerate our latest bogeymen.
?? Guess you missed that IS has no problem whatsoever executing people. Plus, they clearly said that the punishment for drug use is death.

IS are bastards but people like you just turn this into a circus, and its a damn shame.
they execute you because you don't share their belief system IS apologists what the fuck is this lmao [editline]12th August 2014[/editline] man ive seen some shit
Intellectual honesty. Saying they execute people for petty infractions isn't intellectually honest but a knee-jerk reaction. People who share their believe system still make petty infractions - did you even watch the video? Its not being an apologist ~lmao~
Just because they don't have a problem executing people doesn't mean they execute people because your wife is wearing the wrong type of fabric.
I didn't say that. I was responding to your comment saying they won't execute them. Vice said the punishment for drug offences is death. You think VICE is just saying that to stoke the hate "latest bogeymen"? It wouldn't surprise me if they just execute all of them, because they clearly have no proper application of judicial review (not that it would properly exist under Islamic law anyway).

As an ominous after thought to leave the viewers. They never said that guy was scheduled for execution - he probably is - but we simply don't know. I don't know about you but I don't make grandiose claims over things we don't know exactly then get super defensive when someone picks up on that. Sorry I don't like to invent my personal narratives of events because I just enjoy the whole drama of the situation. Take Jund for example, he thinks calling this anything other than genocide is loony. And saying it isn't a genocide makes you an apologist. Domestic policing with strict Sharia law isn't genocide. But of course he's referring to the ethnic cleansing of the Christians - but he's so wrapped in the drama circus that he's applying it to everything lol - even the whipping of people caught with alcohol. It creates a very distorted view on what is actually happening and it does no favors for anyone.
They never said that guy was scheduled for execution - he probably is - but we simply don't know.
So even you accept that the threat of death is widely accepted as punishment for their crimes. Therefore perhaps you should go back to read what post you replied to initially. There is no grandiose claims being made.
It creates a very distorted view on what is actually happening and it does no favors for anyone.
Oh wow. Defending the people that whip civilians for having alcohol, or is that too distorted for you (to realise that every facet of IS is awful)?
You're suggesting I should deliberately paint everything IS do in the worst possible way I can manage simply because they're bad and I don't like them. Doesn't that strike you as odd? Why don't I just try to paint them exactly as they are? Wouldn't that be the best way to conduct things here?
Because you're lying to yourself if you think there is any sort of (somewhat) redeeming elements to IS. There isn't. They are literally the worst in every way possible.
Who said I'm trying to find redemption? "These are bad people if you don't do everything in your power to make these look as bad as possible you yourself are bad" I don't think they're are as bad as the Khmer Rouge so far - so how can they literally be the worst in every way possible when I've already found something worse? Think about it please. You're doing yourself a disservice if you're willfully being intellectually dishonest. Its like when people shitted on Chomsky for correctly pointing out that not as many people died under the Khmer Rouge as the first statistics initially suggested. It didn't stop the Khmer Rouge being bad people, nor was Chomsky trying to be an apologist - it just meant they were more accurately reflected when he was proven right. History is littered with knee-jerk hysteria and bogus stats - you shouldn't strive to add to it DogGunn. It doesn't help anyone understand anything - but sure continue mouth-boxing for your chosen monthly moral outrage.
Classic NoDachi. Your opinions haven't changed much have they.
Classic NoDachi. Your opinions haven't changed much have they.
I just thought if you genuinely cared about what is happening in the world you would make more efforts to be correct and accurate. I'm writing a lot about it because it bothers me what is happening. But I won't do it like this soccermom bullshit you guys pull. So please - continue to shitpost.
and they want to pass in some sharia laws in Sweden. Wow.
and they want to pass in some sharia laws in Sweden. Wow.
Who ISIS?
and they want to pass in some sharia laws in Sweden. Wow.
I have not heard of this before, since when and who is trying to make it happen? [editline]12th August 2014[/editline] Also part four is out, but I don't feel it needs another thread.
Classic NoDachi. Your opinions haven't changed much have they.
All he's saying is that if ISIS, or the IS if you prefer, is so bad (which they are) then you shouldn't have to lie about them to make them look bad. The facts should just speak for themselves (which they do.) By willfully lying about the IS you give credence to their statements that non-Muslims are slandering them.
