I'm sorry but a hell load of animals eat their own excrement in the wild, elephants are a really good example of it because they have weak stomachs. They have to re-eat what they ate to get the full nutrients out of it. So as nasty as you think it is, it's natural.

It can't be all that healthy for any animal to eat its own shit, though it's not complete news to me that they sometimes do that.
But I'm still not convinced that they would prefer to eat their own shit if they had better options laid in front of them, like fruits or so.
