And Elmo is an even bigger one. The dude does the character so well that I forget entirely that it's just a muppet and actually believe it's a real being.
You know you have achieved legendary status when a sock over your hand is recognized as an actual person.
I recommend watching Being Elmo. It's all about the guy that voices and puppeteers him.
Ricky and Elmo both have the same laugh, which is the best thing ever.

I didn't grow up on Elmo but seeing him now I think he would be my childhood favourite character.
