YouTube is 0% more customizable now.
If youtube keeps pushing this shit, I hope people will migrate to a new website. But the world is slowly changing into consumer-ad bullshit. So who knows.

It's getting way worse, I know some people are making alternates and stuff.. like that uTubeClassic.
They need to keep the differences between partner channels and normal channels. Because partners generally are put under more scrutiny for quality, consistency, and safer-copyright-wise content, it would be good for them to more visually stand out.
They keep removing those special visual features like backgrounds and extra branding opportunities. I mean visually, I like the... style sort of,... but feature wise I'm hating it.
Youtube has been dogshit since about 2009.

I've always liked the changes Youtube's made to the player itself, they've always seemed really good, adding more features all the time and simplifying the feel of it. I certainly prefer how the player looks now to the weird silvery gradient thing back in the mid-late 2000s.
But it seems like what they're doing here is trying to turn Youtube into a social network of sorts. I guess this would appeal to the vast majority of Youtube users; ie, people who use stuff like Facebook and probably enjoy that kind of aesthetic. It doesn't change that it looks stupid, but let's face it, they're not just changing this for shiggles.
