I hope he got a permit for cutting that tree.
I'm pretty sure it's their land. They're a family of carpenters and they seem to live on a farmstead.
The commenters seem to just be ripping the dude up lol
I mean I'd give him some credit but when you say making it the old way using modern tools, that's not really the old way.
Nothing like primitive technology, this is merely an advertisement for site which sells axes, bows, and other tools. They sell axes for 500-1900 usd..... Not to piss on anyone's bonfire, but the whole point of tools is efficiency..if I can get a 20 dollar axe that does the same thing as your 1900 dollar axe clearly their product isn't that efficient. Yes they look pretty but who cares unless you collect them.
I meant it's like Primitive Technology in the sense that it doesn't include obnoxious narrations, it's just you, the ambience of the location and the guy getting to work on whatever it is he's doing. MR-X, I'm sorry but a $20 axe is gonna suck major dick and most likely fall apart on you within a few week's worth of use. There's a reason tools are expensive (maybe not their axes, $1900 seems extortionate) but you get what you pay for. It's why toolboxes are stolen, cause they can easily contain thousands of dollars worth of tools. A more expensive axe will retain it's edge longer, be well assembled, and survive whatever you throw at it. A $20 axe would go blunt every time you use it, the head would fall off. This is all besides the point, I thought it was a chilled out video to watch, but for some reason it wasn't as well received as the canoe build video I uploaded a few weeks back.
You're not supposed to cut down a live tree and burn it right away. Even if it's dead you let the wood season or it doesn't burn well. And he did all that for a camp fire? Why didn't he just collect big fallen branches instead of cutting, sawing and chopping down a whole tree? [editline]1st June 2017[/editline] Hell there is an already fallen dead try right behind him he could've cut up.
to be fair, those 20$ hardware store axes aren't really great at cutting down trees either.
Missing the point entire point of my post. I don't need a handcrafted axe that costs 1900 dollars to do the job. While a 20 dollar axe is shit, a 150 dollar quality axe (even chainsaw) can do the same job. I respect the craft, but the prices are laughable. Plus while the video aesthetically was pleasing it kinda comes off of pretentious in my opinion.
mate I just posted a video of some dude chopping a tree with some nice looking axes whilst birds tweet in the background. I dunno why you went CSI Miami on this thread and did a search to find they were selling real expensive axes, that wasn't the point of this thread. as for them charging that amount for an axe? some people like paying that kind of money for a hand-crafted authentic axe. so you coming in here with your budgeting top tips is really pointless and I dunno why you brought it up to begin with. sneaky edit: turns out the shit you're quoting as being $1900 are specialized axes that mimic old Viking styles of weapon, most likely used for top-tier reenactment stuff. your basic felling axe / carpenter axe / whatever costs what you'd expect a well-crafted axe to cost, between $300-500 which is pretty reasonable for a good axe, especially considering the fact they're all handcrafted by a guild (which is awesome as fuck imo).
Is it too late to salvage the thread? [editline]1st June 2017[/editline] Oh just kidding.. I just looked them up they sell 'artisinal' hammers / steel pitons at prices upwards of 1000$.. You could go down to walmart and pick up the same for 10-15$ it's absurd.
Obviously there is a niche market and it costs a lot. If they literally bought walmart grade hammers and sold them for $1000 bucks because they said they were artisinal I dont think they would get enough business to keep going. These are probably small volume hand made tools for people who want hand made tools, if people are willing to pay for this sort of thing then it doesnt matter that you can get a functionally similar tool for 1/50 of the price.

It's not possible that their $1,000 items are actually 10x better than a $100 item.
The commenters seem to just be ripping the dude up lol
Armchair lumberjacks, I love it
I cut down trees every summer on my land to get firewood for winter. Literally no reason to not use a chainsaw. They're not expensive and you'll save sooooo much time. [editline]2nd June 2017[/editline] Chopping down big pines with an axe gets really damn tiresome when you need to take down like 10 trees.
I'm all for advertising your tools in a way that actually shows them working, but what bugs me the most out of the OPs video is the fact the guy never cleared the area where he built the fire. I mean come on.

Just pointing out they sell over-priced stuff for hipster lumberjack wannabes lol
I wouldn't mind an axe, but I'm not paying £400 for one. They can jog on!
