Oh whoops I forgot to add that its a Total Biscuit video in the title.
really hate the fact that you can only "rent" characters if you're f2p. i hope the base dude isn't severely outclassed at some point
You can actually drop champions as permanent unlocks in loot boxes.

IF you're f2p? is there an option of dropping full price on the game and just having everything unlocked?
All I want is third-party dedicated servers and gamemodes/options to play without the class/champions system. That isn't to say I'd never play those modes though, it does seem neat, but the character you choose takes away from your verstaility, I'd rather spend most of my time on a level playing field.

Apparently you can. Which means F2P can be looked at like an extended trial in some cases. It's good in that you'll get more people playing than you would having it premium only.
Okay, Scalebearer is OP as fuck for starting with 150hp and 25 armour, and Crash and Anarki are impossible to hit especially with the shotgun
It looks pretty nice so far. Only thing I'm worried about is that they're gonna make use of the typical slapdash balancing, where they rock the boat with huge buffs and nerfs for the sake of it or when enough people complain about ability x of champion y being over-/underpowered. It doesn't seem like that's gonna happen but it's always a concern for me about those hero-based games.

Bigger characters have more hp due to the fact they are far slower and easier to hit. The smaller characters being hard to hit is normal and boils down to git gud tbh.
During beta everyone playing the smaller faster characters but I was winning games like no tomorrow with scalebearer. People seriously underestimate him; You can make up the speed loss with good movement and his ability is great for ripping through sometimes 2-3 lower hp characters in one go.

Considering duel has always been a huge competitive mode for Quake, I can imagine the character based approach to QC will cause issues. Certain characters (Anarki with 100% self heal and increasing hp, Nyx with invincible stealth escape etc) seem on the surface like they will be instant top tier because their abilities are geared entirely towards 1v1s, but on the flipside they are killed by a single zoomed railgun shot if they don't have lots of armor. Then again you never know, having the increased HP/armor pool on tankier characters but still being able to get a decent movement speed might see people willing to play them.
At the end of the day though none of the characters feel like they are actually overpowered so I can definitely see most of them being viable in some kind of ranked setting. Maybe not at the highest levels, but for the majority of players.
Sure, none of the characters are overpowered, but Ranger loses out every time. Can't stand toe to toe with the tanks, and is outmaneuvered by the speedies. Those fast characters definitely exacerbate lag and poor netcode/hit detection, and while it's not as much of an issue for Sorlag and Scalebearer, it's still present and they have the additional health on spawn to make up for it.
The biggest question I have though is where Sarge at?
disregarding all the design issues with champs and all that, zoomed shots doing more damage is just so ridiculously annoying.
