Holy mother of god, they're making another one and it doesn't look as much of a piece of shit as Far Cry 2  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5lXHmWRziHA 5:14, that takedown made me shit myself. Also I think they're still using the CryEngine. So what'ya think about the game? :3
Why the hell would it suddenly start using the CryEngine when Far Cry 2 used their own engine?
Why not? I don't think they created a new engine just for Far Cry 3, when they have spend so much money and time into developing CryEngine, which would be suitable enough for this game. Besides, FarCry was the game that started it all - the first CryEngine was developed specially for this game.

They're completely different companies and they use different engines.
Far Cry 2 used Dunia engine, which a heavily modified CryEngine, modified by the Ubisoft Montreal development team.
Far Cry 2 used Dunia engine, which a heavily modified CryEngine, modified by the Ubisoft Montreal development team.
Exactly, it's their own engine now, the only thing it has in common with the engine used by Crytek is that it was originally based on the same engine, but they're different now. Ubisoft uses Dunia, while EA with Crytek use CryEngine. There's really no reason why Far Cry 3 would use the CryEngine. It'll just be an upgraded Dunia.
Far Cry 3 is using Dunia
Hopefully we'll see some new features in the new Dunia engine, or at least everything updated to todays standards of gaming.
Simkas you basically said that FC3 had nothing to do with CryEngine yet someone just said it was using CryEngine 1 and you agreed with them.

Not really, Dunia is CryEngine with new shit, they both look exactly alike and function exactly alike in the editing area.
Not really, Dunia is CryEngine with new shit, they both look exactly alike and function exactly alike in the editing area.
Dunia is based on CryEngine, but it's not the same as CryEngine 2, even though they are both improved versions of the same engine. Point is, Ubisoft came up with the Dunia engine, so that's what they're using for Far Cry now, while Crytek came up with CryEngine 2, which is what they are using. There's no reason why Far Cry should be on CryEngine 2.
Dunia and CryEngine are different engines.
But you just agreed with phabeZ that is was the CryEngine, only a modified version.
When did I ever say anything about CryEngine 2? I said CryEngine in general and CryTek is using CryEngine 3.
It looks like you can just walk past the enemies just like in Crysis 2.
are you guys SERIOUSLY discussing the dev decisions? who cares, it looks great.
are you guys SERIOUSLY discussing the dev decisions? who cares, it looks great.
yeah discussing game development on a video game forums is really dumb
i mean discussing the engine, it's not CryEngine because the vegetation moves like dunia, but it's a cousin to cryengine the way shadows move in the grass and the fog, etc
