Discovery channel crashes a Boeing 727 just to see what happens

lol 2 parts for no reason

what they learned: cables fall from the roof and tangle onto passengers making it hard to evacuate, people on first class will die more, and jet engines can trip to full thrust when they loose connection with the cockpit (they had to wait 2 hours after the crash to let the engines run out of fuel before the scientists could get near the wreckage)
2 Parts for no reason. First part available in my country, the other isn't, probably just to make my life difficult.
people on first class will die more,
I can now justify not wanting to pay $4000 every time I want to visit my family and not seem poor
Why do people not allow some country to view their videos? It's not like it has any top secret information in it, I just want to see a fucking plane explode
As they said about the engines being tripped, isn't that why planes fly until they run out of fuel or they dump fuel to prevent that right?
discovery channel is crashing planes and building observatories. The rest of television? honey boo boo. They are the last survivors.
Discovery should realize TV is a lost cause and come chill with the internet.
second video not available in the UK

I think that also has to do with reducing stress on the landing gear.
Surprisingly looked extremely survivable, even for the pilots as long as they were strapped in with the shoulder restraints

No they do that because a plane's Max landing weight is far less than the max take off weight, so they have to, and it does reduces chances of a larger fire/explosion, but weight is why they do it
award for biggest rc vehicle ever goes to big flo

And as a corollary to that, a lighter plane is much easier to land and bring to a stop than one full of fuel.

Its more of a maximum recommended landing weight.

What about that looked "extremely survivable"?
What about that looked "extremely survivable"?
A large part of the fuselage seemed to be intact
Did you see the amount of trauma the people are subject to inside of that fuselage though? From not only the collision but from debris/components falling from the ceiling.
I think you guys are underestimating the amount of force that is behind this.
Fuck you discovery channel, how the fuck am i supposed to watch this if everything you air on your stupid channel is god damn gold rush and Bering sea gold, fuck you and go fucking die.
Mythbuster and Curiosity are the last remaining shreds of "discovery" the channel has left. Mythbusters is starting to push it too.
But i love curiosity because it's literally "Let's do this because it's science, who cares if it's entertaining it's SCIENCE!"

For those who can't view it..
Dude, that guy had a remote control... for a 727.
Where do I get one and how much?
Can you imagine the looks on the faces of the dudes at the RC plane fields when I land a 727 while standing next to them?

It basically landed between -500 and -1000 feet per minute, the usual glideslope maybe a bit steeper, that most planes follow while landing until they're nearly at the threshold and start flaring. That's basically how fast a human falls from like 3 feet, combined with the brace position you'd be in... Yeah it's survivable, easily
I wonder what it would be like to have a crashed passenger jet as an airsoft or paintball playing field

irrelevant post award, 2012.
irrelevant post award, 2012.
It is ironic because yours is also irrelevant in a way.
Also, thanks for the links OP. I forgot to catch this when I came on earlier.
i do this all the time in rigs of rods
So they can afford to crash a fucking 727 but can't even rent a decent slow motion camera to film it, nice.

It's probably some music licensing bullshit.
So what they need to do now is figure out how to design planes so that the front of the fuselage/cockpit doesn't fold like that on impact.

imagine thinking as a kid "wow, i can fly a rc plane" and then 40 years later you're flying a fucking 727 with the same remote
I would not want to be in first class if a plane was to crash like that.
irrelevant post award, 2012.
actually, it is relevant. It has to do with the subject matter of a crashed plane
