Just because you don't like the music which is currently popular doesn't mean music is garbage. There's plenty of good music still coming out in genres that you surely like, so listen to those. "People agree with me." Yeah, if you talk with like minded people, they're going to have the same opinion as you. Again, listen to music you like if you don't like rap and hip hop.
My music taste is determined by my mood, but I agree that music is going to shit lately.
Maybe the more popular stuff sure, but if you know where to look you can find some great stuff that's considered "today's music. For example:
What is good and bad is subjective, I listen to most of the stuff I'll here come on the radio because I think it's catchy (maybe not good, but catchy nonetheless". Also the types of people like this kid piss me off to no end because they seem to just have this affinity for not having fun. If a song comes on the radio or at a party that they think is "shit" they'll bitch and moan about it until someone puts their favorite pink floyd song on.
There's shit pop music in every generation. This kid just isn't looking.
(Remember when songs actually had meaning to them? Not saying there's absolutely no good music out there today, but the vast majority of what's being put on is complete shit)
I'd say a majority of chart toppers is just pop (like it always has been IE early Beatles, Presly, Holly, The Trashmen, B-52s and hell even big band.) A lot of the songs towards the lower half of the popularity spectrum can carry lots of meaning and talent, you obviously just don't go looking even slightly.
Goddamn I fucking despice people who constantly look up to the right/left when "thinking". And those are some goddamn strong glasses...
Well considering that 90% of the songs that I always hear on the radio or just at any place always follow the same generic formula of drugs/sex/violence/gangs/and 'being in the club,' yeah i'd say music is going to shit too. (Remember when songs actually had meaning to them? Not saying there's absolutely no good music out there today, but the vast majority of what's being put on is complete shit; you have to spend time searching for the good stuff)
then dont listen to the TOP FUCKING 40 RADIO STATIONS fuck

The top song of the year was "To Sir with Love" by Lulu, but if you ask anyone about that year they'll probably mention the Beatles, or the Doors, or Hendrix (Who didn't make the top 100) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billboard_Year-End_Hot_100_singles_of_1967 You can't say lyrics have been dumbed down, when this stayed at #1 for 3 weeks:
Has he even discovered genres in order to criticize them?
I've always thought people who say this are slightly racist, since they try and play off all modern artists as being obsessed with drugs, hookers and gang violence
this is so hard to watch
People should listen to whatever they want. Who cares if it's popular?
The next TAA
Today's music is fine. The problem is what kind of music gets exposed. Nowadays, radio stations favor mindlessness in songs while overlooking many meaningful artists. Not implying there haven't been shitty mainstream examples in the past, but I've noticed an increasing amount of poppy/repetitive crap that's been playing over radio waves lately. (And obviously, underground music can be bad too.) Related.
The next TAA
Stop reading my mind.
He's not looking hard enough. Maybe he should stop complaining so much about how music is bad and just actually listen to new music out there. I think most everyone went through a phase like this, I certainly did when I was 12.
