Hoping that the first-person perspective was just for the demo? [hd]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tS05LB-3W4c[/hd] Too bad, it seems the majority if not the whole game is going to keep that perspective. More cynical are already decrying it as an Outlast/Amnesia clone.

They don't show it but the game actually does feature weapons, as seen in the playable prologue demo with the axe.

However, people are gonna bitch either way, so that's to be expected.
I like this style of gameplay, Resident Evil is scary now, and not just an action-shooter it became at 4.
I like this style of gameplay, Resident Evil is scary now, and not just an action-shooter it became at 4.
B-but 4 was good :c.
B-but 4 was good :c.
It wasn't a bad game. Just really not so resident'sy evil'y as the name would have suggested.
I want both style of Resident Evils, the more morbid and tense ones and the ridiculous action ones, they're both amazingly fun, the action ones especially in co-op, never had as much fun in a co-op game with my brother as I did playing through 5 & 6. The only ones I don't want are these horrible deathmatch ones, these are complete garbage through and through.
Honestly if it's not campy it's not Resident Evil. For me at-least.
first person is scarier than third person but good fixed camera angles are better than both

Kinda funny because Resident Evil was envisioned as being first person since the start but the technology wasn't there yet.
You mean something like Resident Evil 1-3 and Silent Hill? I think the whole first person perspective makes the player more in control rather than having to look at someone. Hate to say it, but it makes the player more isolated when they don't see the protagonist.
imo it doesn't really have as much effect because almost all horror games are first person now, it's like the default PoV. fixed camera angles are great because they tell you things about the environment through their placement and movement. like when you go into that alleyway at the start of Silent Hill 1 and the camera's in loads of highly-strung top-down dutch angles and sweeping all around, it gives a feeling for this rat's nest of passages you're descending into and emphasizes the amount of darkness on-screen. in first person that would just be a load of dark corridors, but because of the angles you pay more attention to the sharp geometry of the alley, how impossibly long and deep it is, etc. and that builds lots more tension.

First person makes you more immersed as it makes you feel like you're this character in this horror environment, while fixed camera angles makes it feel more like you're watching and controlling a horror movie.
God the comments are fucking awful. Because god forbid they try something new, right? 'Rest in Peace Resident Evil 1996-2016 I had amazing times with you but it's done for real now besides the non-stop action the last downgrade I wanted to see is turning the game into FPS crap..•' What the fuck is this? This looks fucking awesome yet people are constantly whining about it not being like the previous resident evils. Why the hell are people like this?
GO TELL AUNT RHODY i am insistent that the song in the first trailer is one of the coolest songs to grace a video game trailer ever.
'I hate this game because its 1st person, has a main character nobody gives a fuck about, caters to brainless 12-year-old COD fans, has no cutscenes, and is an unneeded and unwanted reboot of the story•' I honestly don't want to believe people can actually be like this.

It didn't even make fun in coop because almost everything about the game was embarassing and bad.
They should show us a bit of combat and puzzle solving, it's not a Resident Evil game until we do some goofy ass puzzles.
I don't mind the change to first person, I mean we still have REmake 2 coming so if you are really in need for a classic style RE game they got you covered.
I've never been this excited about a series going First Person Perspective since Fallout 3.
I hope the premise is that you're just normal people that get into this situation that's not good with guns, kinda like Silent Hil. Every Resident Evil game, all of them more or less know how to shoot a gun.
I like that they're using the PT method of horror by using almost seamless graphics to immerse the player. I hope the player character constantly talking is just for the trailer, it would get really annoying in the game.
Resident evil has been first person before, a few times actually. Hell the first Resident Evil i actually owned was Survivior and that is very much an FPS game (and a shit one at that).
If this is going to be the style it takes on I'm not really digging it. I did not enjoy these style games, they got boring very quickly for me. Would have been nice to see a NEW traditional resident evil game. Even if they went this route it would have been nice if it was the typical zombie/monster type set up and survivor horror fps.
People in the youtube comments are angry that this isn't third person. lol Alien: Isolation was originally going to be third person until devs found it scarier to play in first person. Huge difference it makes.
Ironically enough, the original Resident Evil was going to be first person but the dev thought first person wasn't scary enough. Imagine how laughably wrong he was.
I like this style of gameplay, Resident Evil is scary now, and not just an action-shooter it became at 4.
Resident Evil was always an action game/shooter. Horror games don't arm you with grenade launchers, assault rifles, hand cannons, shotguns and make you play as cops, soldiers and SWAT people who are capable of handling themselves very well in bad situations. They were just bad at being action/shooter games because it was the 90's and pretty much anything in 3D that wasn't an FPS was terrible.
first time i ever heard of pre-4 RE described as an action shooter couldve sworn they were called survival horror
1 was really straight survival horror. It's not about what you have but how much you can actually use it. Case in point, there's barely enough ammo to go around at times. 2 and 3 were basically action horror games with heavy survival elements. The only really hardcore survival horror game in the series is REmake.
I'm not a fan of how they're advertising the game. They're making it look like an Amnesia or Outlast style of horror game, but Resident Evil is a Survival Horror game. Until I saw the projector room in the trailer I was worried there wouldn't be any puzzles in the game, but that small pillar in the middle just screams puzzle. To me horror games are boring as fuck. "Oh no, a monster I can't defend myself from. Better hide behind a box until it decided to fuck off for a while." Survival Horror is all about resource management, learning the world you inhabit, and mitigating the threats of the monsters. Sometimes that means killing, but most of the time it means running away, either is fine. I don't understand the praise this is getting. "Yay, now it's a horror game!" is what I hear, but all I can think is "Fuck, they're stripping out all the survival stuff". I don't understand people praising this game and comparing it to the originals, the originals had giant mutant sharks, zombie dogs, a grenade launcher. You finish the game by shooting a fucking giant mutant man with a rocket launcher. I don't want to be negative about this game, but I honestly don't see what people like about this. Rather than making a Resident Evil game, they're making a generic survival game and people are acting like it's some fucking bold move. Good job Capcom, just abandon Resident Evil because people who haven't played the originals in 20 years keep comparing them to Amnesia. Maybe I'm wrong and the game will be more like Resident Evil of the past and the advertising is just playing up the horror part, but I don't like what I've seen at all. [editline]17th August 2016[/editline]
It wasn't a bad game. Just really not so resident'sy evil'y as the name would have suggested.
And a first person hide behind cover to avoid the spoopy enemies survival game is Resident Evil'y? This looks like a MUCH larger step away from RE2-3's style than RE4 was. And it's certainly nothing like RE1.

That Yoko bitch was always holding out on the rest of us.

This is a step in the right direction unless you wamt another RE 6.
