Yes I can see my doctor for free without ever having to see a bill, I can get free blood test, free HIV, STI and AIDS check, yes I can get free surgery and admission into public hospitals (which fucking suck btw)
but seeing a dentist costs money, some medication is stupidly expensive unless you're on centrelink and private health insurance is optimal for just about all cases if you want to make sure you don't get majorly fucked
Medicare needs a lot of improvements, and the LNP have not been helping

Dental care costs over here too, although it's covered by the NHS until you're 18. There's supposed to be some coverage for students too but as a student who has tried to get such support it's very specific who they will actually reimburse.
Fucking love the government health care I'm on rn, the "health care card" doubles as general concession, 50 cent bus fares, most of my medications I get almost half off and I've only ever actually paid for 3 doctor's appointments and 2 of those were dermatologists and I still got like 65% of my money back. Once I'm making money that gets me out of the low income range it's gonna suck for a bit tbh

Dentists still do charge a bit but usually that's a once a year thing but that depends on personal circumstances

Basic metal(?) fillings are covered, but they aren't white. If you want ceramic, that's still <50€ a piece.
What's really not covered that well is fixing tooth misalignment afaik, but I haven't actually checked how much that costs.

In case you don't know already, you get regular check-ups and (a bit less often, I think) maintenance for free, even if there aren't any pressing issues.
If you go there regularly enough, you should get a bonus booklet that eventually makes replacements less expensive too. I don't know whether that depends on how you're insured, but [I]I think[/I] it's a general thing.

If people aren't either dying from not being able to afford care or going bankrupt cuz they try, then you're much better off than America is about to be if this new system passes the senate.
"Seeing a dentist costs money" isn't much of a complaint compared to "I need this medication to live and no longer have a way to get it, I'll be dead within a few months"

We have an NHS system some dentists use where the NHS will pay for part of it. I prefer using it personally since whenever you go private they suddenly start wanting to push all sorts of unnecessary shit on you so they can make lodesamone.

honestly we have it pretty good, the NHS isn't much better and places in europe where it is have to tax the piss out of everyone (which is fine but not something you can just try to impose suddenly)
the divide between public and private healthcare is still really shitty but having to wait a while to have surgery and recovering in a shared hospital room is still better than being sidled with crippling debt for the rest of your life like the US
