I was looking forward to this guy's video on this game because he typically does go into detail and really criticise the narrative of games, and Deus Ex really needed it because as he says it's got the veneer of narrative depth. Despite excellent level and game design.

Instead, it appears that the topic is just avoided?
I've been watching an LP not playing the game because money, but basically it has no story, stuff sorta just happens and the racial allegories and references to xenophobia and hate and all that makes no sense and is barely touched whatsoever. There is still "Aug lives matter" and all that stuff, if you want dissection do why it makes no sense then look it up cause people did videos on it, but basically augs are not a decent allegory for black people, or Muslims or anyone really. Jensen is a superhero so you're always told but not shown. It's just eh. Also there's a lot of inconsistencies like how nobody talks about all the super rich augmented people which was a large part of HR, they're just presented as poor oppressed people now.

Most of the side quests are related to it but the main quest is concerned with other things. It's still a good story though IMO. Huge spoilers, for people who have finished the game only: [sp]The game sets itself up as an investigation into a bombing of a train station. Then that's exactly what it is, it's a very direct story.[/sp]
