this dude does some really awesome technical analysis in filmography. check out his vids if you have even the slightest interest in film techniques
Really enjoy the channel. Turned me into a serious Fincher fan a while back. I wish there were more channels like this.
I wish more movies were filmed in that way. Close up someone's face and reverse shots is such a lazy way to make talking scene.
This guy's a genius. I really recommend his deconstruction of Bayhem video.
Love when films do that. From the more commonly known, Kubrick likes to make this, too. You could take almost each shot and turn it into an oil painting. Though it's a bit different topic than than the video's, as Kubrick loves to make static long shots with camera zooming out.

Shame I don't have FMJ on my hard drive, there's a lot of interesting moments there, too.
didn't Drive do a cool thing by making that cool blue/orange color palate for scenes but because the director wasn't a schmuck the scenes were blue/orange not due to post effects but natural lighting and prop/costume selection?

it has been heavily altered though to be more consistent. i've seen the workprint version which had very different colour
There's a kind of relaxation and comfort in old movies that new movies just don't have, simply because the directors didn't force a dozen different viewpoints on you during a single scene. It leaves more room for actors to tell the story, rather than the movie try to take you on a ride by flinging the camera around like a bouncy ball.
I mean, take the Transformers movie. I know, it's an action movie, so obviously it's going to have more action when it comes to scenes. But even in a scene that's supposed to be the foreboding 'calm before the storm', the camera is still being flung around for no good reason, and you get dozens of different viewpoints like the director cannot decide what the fuck he wants to film.
This clip is a good example, because it's a rather quiet scene followed by an action scene.

It gets so bad that once the action does start happening, you cannot tell what the fuck is going on.
And why the fuck would you put faux Latin chanting in a movie about giant robots?
Thank you for turning me on to this channel, I've never been taught this well about visual storytelling in movies.

It was altered slightly to make it more consistent, but a lot of the movie was filmed that way.
Man, I fucking love that movie, and the soundtrack is kickass too.

Oh wow, I was really hoping he'd do a Drive video sometime.
Looks like I got my wish.

I've never been able to tell that the fuck is going on in the Transformers action scenes.
Just looks like a mess of nauseating spinning cameras and CGI shiny metal flying around.
A lot of "mainstream" movies abuse cuts so much it feels like a youtube video. Especially during action or dialogue they love to go cut cut cut.

The worst I do remember were the action scenes in Alien vs. Predator 2. There were like three cuts per second.

Wait until you see Taken 3.
