But trendy hipsters that make up America are too busy applying filters for their Instagram photos on their iPhone for any of them to write any computer games.
Good luck with that.
You can't.
Yes, be the very best you can, then once you do that. Oh goodbye.
But angry birds is too fun, Mr. President!
On an unrelated note, holy shit I don't think I've ever seen Obama looking this bad, poor guy looks like he's in his late 60's/early 70's. If I had to deal with a congress that barely passes 65 bills per year I would probably be dead.
He should have said "Yes you can"
I thought that was nice and kinda true, computers are going to become more important and if you don't know how to use them you're going to have a hard time finding work in the future.
"here's an ipad that you have to pay $100 a year to run code on"
thanks obama for providing us an environment in which programming is easy and accessible
I'm just gonna say my school sits with their phones all the time, but can't save a document in Word.

And this is why we can´t have nice things.
Computers are here to stay. Until we destroy ourselves or some sort of global wide event puts a few survivors in caves for years, they aren't going anywhere. In 2020 it's expected that the USA will have a million more computer related jobs than people that can fill them
If you can't do dick on a computer, you're going to be fucked. Not now, but within our life times maybe, and if you're already way above average in how they work, you're going to be in good shape

I've someone in my class who doesn't know how to open the taskmanager, let alone how to plug a computer.
We're in a some sort of IT class.
He's trying to warn us that the computers will soon take over and we have to know how they work to destroy them /conspiracy
What a fucking hypocrite. If you want you people learning Computer Science, make the fucking subject accessible to everyone and raise the quality of education.
next week he's gonna be asking people to help on his mod
barack "ideas guy" obama??
Computer Science has to be taught across public schools at a lower level if it is going to be accessible. Currently the college level field is heavily based on mathematics which bars entry to a large portion of the population.
no please stop
you're all going to put me out of a job
Computer science also needs a new kind of system, you cant just make a curriculum for computer science and roll with it for next 10 years. It has be a system where its constantly changing so you are always learning the newest things.

Although CS always changes, the low level principles always remain the same.
People that want to learn computer science will bother to learn it, you don't need to tell them to.
I don't see the point. Programming is not a skill that is useful for everyone

would you rather have the president encouraging our youth to continue to be couch potatoes with declining test scores? Or would you rather him promote creativity or education. Even if its education that most people dont need, its better than nothing.

No it's not. More classes that people don't need will do more harm than good

basic understanding of computers Is an pretty important, as is basic chemistry and biology.
Somebody has to scrub the toilets.

Programming is not basic understanding of computers. And most kids know how to use a computer at the age of 5

You would be surprised a lot of people have no fucking idea how to navigate a pc
He looks like he's been up for days.
He's trying to hire the next generation of NSA workers.
