Here's a bit of nostalgia for you
For the uninitiated, WoTS is basically War of the Worlds set in Gmod (v9). Made in '07 by Lit Fuse Films, it was, IIRC, the first feature-length machinima film.
Just please don't read the youtube comments and save yourself the aneurysm.

Good old Robert Stoneman.
Ah, slapping on some dumpster lids to the air boat and giving them lift properties and having great handling aircraft. Those were the fun days
I remember looking for the maps they used for a straight week when this first came out. Good times
It's sad, a lot of people here now have no idea what this is.
Lit fuse was the best and i have yet to see anybody else make equally good machinimas in gmod, wish they never broke up
When this first came out this was THE machinima; you know, when that actually meant something.
This had a following and awe akin to an actual movie
this coming out at the same time of me being super into Garrysmod was fucking great.
Also if this doesn't make you feel old in general, consider this: *9 y.o. kids playing gmod today weren't born til after its first release.
I always held out hope a second WOTS would come out; even though I know he did that april fools joke teasing a second. Always loved the music in this
Not many Machinima these days can match it
well it was released about a month(?) after gmod10 first released on steam
GMod was still the biggest mod before 10 was out, v9 was the hay day
I remember being like 12 when I first played Gmod9, went onto de-dust2 and was so impressed by the fact I could rope two barrels together, Little old me thought it was the bloody future.
This was one of the films that got me interested in animation. I even used their official templates and stuff to burn myself a DVD, complete with label and sleeve (poorly though, because I was young and stupid).
I remember hearing about this back in the day, but I never watched it because I was an impatient bastard who couldn't watch online videos longer than 10 minutes.
This is high-quality machiniming at its finest.
What i remember the most about this was all the people who started to attempt a War of the Servers 2.

Oh man, back then this was the best thing.
Thanks a lot for bringing back memories!
Lets not forget the amazing musical the series uses:

Since this I've always considered the airboat with dumpster lid wings to be the Spitfire of Gmod.
back in the day WotS got me into this, and now i've listened to most of the versions of the entire thing, the bonus and demo tracks, the cut songs, and even seen the live show. i pretty much have LitFuse and Steinmann to thank for the whole experience.
Since this I've always considered the airboat with dumpster lid wings to be the Spitfire of Gmod.
i once built a version that was armed with turrets and had the banking thrusters attached to the wooden pallet wings - once you shot another player's wing off he'd spiral out of control and into the ground
sadly i haven't been able to build those things since Garry did something to the thruster physics in one of the bigger updates

I saw they're doing pretty well working with big game publishers now, mass effect if I remember correctly.
I remember the epic sound track this film had. It's sad to see Garrys Mod machinima so quiet now.

Sadly I don't think there is a big enough audience to warrant such a large scale film anymore. It's a great chapter in gmod machinimas history but I doubt anything as big would ever happen again
I remember this so fondly. God, the throw back to PHW and Litfuse. Sad both of those died. I think when those fell off was kinda when Gmod started to fall off for me as well for a while.
It still pains me to this day that they canceled Combine Nations as early as they did. it was hands down my favorite machinima of all time.
I remember waiting up for this to be released, then downloading the two part WMV of it from the litfuse website on my slow as heck internet. That was probably the peak of gmod for me, a great time
The thing about GMod back then is that we didn't have half of the addons and tech the game has now. And we had to use our imagination for a lot of stuff. That's why early machinima has this kind of wonder that recent machinima rarely captures.

After gamemodes like TTT and Murder were introduced as the 'main game' and sandbox died off the entire game just fell to really young kids. The magic was gone and the only media content you saw from GMod was: [FUNNY] GMOD TTT MOMENTS [FUNNY]
that was about 4 or so years ago and it's slipped away slowly since
And the thing is, anyone that watches this now can spot how they made each shot. But back then, we couldn't. That's how engrossing it was- and still is. Every now and then you go "whaaa?"

Fun, yes, I loved playing it and the social engineering inherent to being a traitor and the edge of suspense to being everyone else. But funny? Rarely was it funny. And I have no idea what "Murder" is supposed to be.
Didn't they also give free dvd's with a full case to anyone that wanted them at their own expense?
I suppose now that most of lit fuse work in the industry it paid off anywho

Then afterwards it was fun to look at a scene and try to figure out how they made it work and trying to replicate it yourself.
Ah Litfuse. This was probably one of my favourites.
