Well played Arvuti...

[sp] wow kind of expected it, he didn't like it as much as the previous one because they made it too wacky [/sp]
what no that wasn't what he said at all what he basically said and what I also agree on: [sp]shitty pacing side missions are more like activities main character isn't "straight" anymore, so there's no contrast to the wackyness, which sometimes could be really fucking funny.[/sp]
I agree with him fully. I preferred Saints Row 2 because it seems like they tried way too hard in SR3, even though I love SR3, they really removed a lot of what made SR2, like what Yahtzee said.
Yeah, despite having a load of fun with the game myself, I do agree that the developers sort of missed the point of the praise that SR2 got. It wasn't just praised because it was a wacky open-world game, but also because it was paced well enough that doing wacky and cool shit felt really good. That, and the characters reacting normally to a progressively wackier world is something that works well in things like this, and the humor loses steam when the characters start to become more self-aware. I don't really know why he says there's no context for the activities, though. It's not the same as it was in SR2, but if you go through the story missions I'm pretty sure they introduce each activity and give each one some kind of loose context.

Whackizade out of a clownshoe :v:
I'd have to completely disagree, I can't even say how much I prefer SR3 more than SR2. Yeah, SR2 had some more stuff in it, but the horrible PC port made the gameplay feel like a game from 2005, run like a game from 2012 and yet look worse than a game from 2003. All of the gameplay was just completely boring due to how dull and stiff it was, driving around the city was completely boring since the entire city also felt really dull and lifeless and the vehicle handling was so goddamn bad that every time I had to control any kind of ground vehicle, I'd pretty much feel physical pain from how bad it was. And half of the stuff that it did have were just pointless or more annoying than fun. [editline]8th December 2011[/editline] Oh yeah and SR2's graphics were just goddamn ugly.
SR3 also have bad vehicle handling and shit graphics and they basically removed/ruined/limited all sr2 cool features.
I'd have to disagree with the graphics part. I think it looks pretty good on high/ultra. Also, SR2 was complete shit on PC, both by itself and when compared to the console versions. Although even the console versions have not aged well at all.
Thanks so much for posting this, I saw this series a while back and somehow it got into my head that TotalBiscuit made it, so I wasted a lot of time looking on his channels and website.
I liked the game
I felt SR3 was overall a improvement to SR2, I'm actually surprised Yahtzee was this harsh.
I dont think the story lasted long enough. Seemed like it was pretty much over the first day of playing.
As much as I love SR3, a lot of shit from SR2 feels missing. I was expecting a much funnier game since SR2 still tried to play shit straight.
i can't believe i agree with yahtzee. i have been trumpeting the horn of "making dumb wacky shit the normal form of gameplay removes the fun of it being wacky" since the first saint's row. i'm just let down that is has taken until this ridiculous level of retardedness for him to realise this issue
SR2 was a good mix it just ran like shit that was the problem. why couldn't they just improve on SR2 and make it not run like shit??
Maybe it's skyrim existing, but I'm having a really hard time wanting to play saints row 3. I bought them both when they came out and what limited time I have for gaming is almost strictly skyrim.
I felt SR3 was overall a improvement to SR2, I'm actually surprised Yahtzee was this harsh.
He always does this with games that try to one-up the stuff he really loved. He almost comes off as being offended by the idea that something could be better than [insert game here] and acts bitter towards everything that's different about it. Though he's pretty much admitted that his videos are made for entertainment. I'm also not trying to suggest that the things he says are necessarily wrong, I'm just pointing out something he tends to do.
SR3 also have bad vehicle handling and shit graphics and they basically removed/ruined/limited all sr2 cool features.
No, it didn't? SR3's vehicle handling is miles ahead of SR2's, driving now actually isn't causing physical pain and the graphics are far from shit. The graphics now are actually really good looking, mainly because they focused on everything having a cartoony look and they succeeded at it. And they removed all cool features? So using guns, killing people, driving cars, doing activities, playing missions are all removed? Cause I'm pretty sure all of those things are in SR3.
For those who are gettign bored of SR3: Play through it in coop. On Hardcore. Frustrating missions become FUUUN.
I felt the same way from seeing the first trailer. Running around in an insane world was contrasted with grim scenes like Carlos' death, the killing of Maero's girlfriend Jessica, and the Graveyard scene. In SR3 you start at the top with no regard for any contrasting tone.
I like the fact that in a sea of dull colours of modern gaming, It's good to see a bright, colorful city. I loved my first ride with pierce through the town, looking at the sky and around, enjoying the fact that Im actually seeing red and blue and green and a mix of them. Also I prefer the Tim and Eric Genki skit over the actual Genki minigame.
