Way overdue, but here they are: the animations for my Garry's Mod Graboid SNPC, from the Tremors film and TV series by Universal. Unlike my last Shrieker video, this one is rendered out using Global Illumination and Physical Sun/Sky, so the image should look a touch more lifelike and less flat. This will NOT however affect its appearance in Garry's Mod, it's just a neat little thing for this video. Also, if you're wondering why certain features, like most movement animations and stuff are missing, that's because the animations occur below-ground and won't be seen, or have no animation at all. Such features you don't see are as follows: -creeping -chasing -fleeing (from an explosion) -sucking people and objects below without surfacing -ejecting inedible objects back out of the ground -burying larger objects if players or npc's try standing on, or hiding in them for shelter -And naturally, nice dust trails and various particle effects that will be implemented in-game
Gah fuck, I'm panicking already
I don't like the attack animations, the tongues should stick off the ground, rather than just tentacle around wildly.
this will be fun
I don't like the attack animations, the tongues should stick off the ground, rather than just tentacle around wildly.
Yeah, I know. Problem is though, all of that sorta' falls apart if uneven terrain gets involved, and it's likely to. I figured telegraphing its attacks off the ground might reduce instances of clipping with the floor. Sorry it acts more like Great Cthulu than a Graboid... Besides, those tongues are tricky to animate. IK just never worked, so it's all manual forward kinematics.
You do realize the hillarity in the fact that you created a better model for gmod than they had in the third movie right?
You do realize the hillarity in the fact that you created a better model for gmod than they had in the third movie right?
Hahaha! I don't know about that, I've seen the bare bones of that model. Still, I did put love into these babies.
my response to this: nice work, this is one of my favorite movies. [editline]1st March 2012[/editline] when is this going to be out? I want it.
Awesome.
After I saw the first movie as a kid, I didn't walk on anything but concrete and blacktop for a whole month.
i love it when you watch movies like this as a kid and shit your pants but you watch it again years later and realize that its a comedy
nice work, this is one of my favorite movies. [editline]1st March 2012[/editline] when is this going to be out? I want it.
Thanks! This is something of a "when it's done" thing, but I've got Silverlan himself doing the coding. He worked wonders with my TRex, never seen a guy do stuff with GMod like what he does. My ultimate goal here is to have the full Graboid life cycle, from Graboids, to Shriekers, to Assblasters, to eggs, to baby Graboids (I call them "Grablets") and back to full-sized Graboids again. If you want, there are functional ragdolls for the Graboid, Shrieker and AssBlaster here for GMod: And if you want to check on progress and stuff, check this thread every now and then: http://www.facepunch.com/threads/659386/34
Dude you are my hero. I would love to have a Tremors mode. Stand on the roof while avoiding graboids.
Man, people outside my family mention Tremors so little, it really makes me feel great that people always seem to turn up to see this stuff. While we're still on the first page (not that I'm getting my hopes up) I might as well post my video for the Shrieker too. It's older, but folks checking this thread might not have seen it before. [editline]1st March 2012[/editline] Also yeah, I know the feet look screwed up. I fixed that after this video was made.
Tremors was my favorite movie series wen I was younger. I always enjoyed watching it, even if it scared the piss out of me when I was little. Still enjoyable to watch. The first is still the best in my opinion, with second as a close second and third as a very very guilty pleasure. The fourth one doesn't exist.
Garrysmod will no longer be safe from the ones under the earth
Oh man I remember this from a while back! The ragdolls were awesome to fool around with, a SNPC of them is going to be sick!
Now make a Burt npc.
I were browsing your Gmod.org files and then I saw this. [t]http://s3.garrysmod.org/img/dl/90715_1.jpg[/t] 'Gabroids eat 2x there body weight' Link to the damn picture: http://www.garrysmod.org/downloads/?a=showimg&v=90715_1
Love these films, but when I was a kid they fucking traumatized me. Felt really silly after seeing it years later and realized it was funny.
The bullsquid animations translate really well.
... What bullsquid animations? 0_o
Tremors was my favorite movie series wen I was younger. I always enjoyed watching it, even if it scared the piss out of me when I was little. Still enjoyable to watch. The fourth one doesn't exist.
I feel almost the same, but for me Tremors 3 was the bad-apple. I actually really liked Tremors 4 for what it was. It brought the series back to its roots, sticking with Graboids from start to finish as our main monsters. I think what I loved most about it were the practical effects used in the film. There's a distinct lack of the crummy TV-budget CGI used in Tremors three, instead relying on actual puppets and animatronics like the first two movies, and I finally felt like I was seeing actual Graboids again. I also liked the little nods to the first movie, as well as Michael Gross proving his range by playing Hiram Gummer, who's night and day compared to our beloved Burt. Tremors 4 DID have problems, but they were relatively minor. Tremors 3 just didn't have a payoff. The effects were on a serious budget, up to and including some shameless use of stock footage from Tremors 1, and really the AssBlaster felt like a letdown as our new monster, leave alone the juvenile name. Plus, they were never menacing. If I see a Graboid heading my way, I'm gonna say, "Oh fuck, a Graboid!". If I see a Shrieker with it's massive jaws running at me, I'm gonna say, "Oh shit oh shit oh shit!" If I see an AssBlaster waddling/flying my way? "I got this..." I mean really, even i you count the TV series, their body count comes down to something like 2. And I almost don't count the death of Miguel, who at best was killed by the impact of the animal as it crashed and died, and at worst only died from the fall off the cliffside. The other guy was obliterated when one of them blasted off while he was in his Jeep. Okay, they can burn you (not that we ever see them turn the flame on someone) but we've never seen it's puny mandibles really do anything. I don't buy the danger of it, given on more than one occasion someone mauled by an AssBlaster was able to fend it off by holding it's mandibles back with their bare fucking hands. Supposedly one of them tears the hood off Burt's truck in the series, but still... Hell, Rosalita fought one off by kicking it in the head once even!
Now make a Burt npc.
That might just happen... It would happen AFTER everything else was finished, but don't think it hadn't crossed my mind. I'm also very interested in a few SWEPs, like the Elephant Gun, and the pipe-bombs, and the Grizzly .50 Cal... and that fucking Punt Gun...
oh shit yeah 3.5 years of waiting has payed off
You can keep your zombies. A real man runs from grabiods.
You can keep your zombies. A real man runs from grabiods.
And Burt Gummer blows them the fuck up!
Obligatory Burt Gummer quote "I am COMPLETELY out of ammo. That's never happened to me before."
I can see the reactions to a few of those SNPC's being spawned in. "Uh oh, tremerz"
