that looks incredibly hard to aim. Props to him eventually being able to hit shit I can't wait for him to make a bow. The only thing I know how to make from scratch is a bow, which requires a long time of fine tuning, and even then you always almost break a few in the later stages of adding draw-weight
Fun fact, slings were a common weapon used by the Greeks/Macedonians for an extremely long time. [t]https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/4a/Sling_bullets_BM_GR1842.7-28.550_GR1851.5-7.11.jpg[/t] ΔΕΞΑΙ (Dexai), or simply, "Catch"
I really love his style of no bullshit straight into the content type of video, really works well for him
The force behind some of those shots, you wouldn't want to be hit by them for sure.
Sweet! I've been waiting for a new video.
The force behind some of those shots, you wouldn't want to be hit by them for sure.
Specially when you use the fist sized lead shot they used back in the day.
Would a sling be good at hunting? Seems like it's far too inaccurate. I thought they were only used in war, since it was easy to hit a target when the target was a large mass of men.

For the most part, you need a lot of practice to aim a sling accurately.
just once i'd love to see this guy fail at something so i know hes human. like les stroud
Would a sling be good at hunting? Seems like it's far too inaccurate.
After enough training, slings were perfect for small game like rabbits or birds. Iirc it is still debated which "appeared" first, the bow or the sling.
just once i'd love to see this guy fail at something so i know hes human. like les stroud
well, he did kinda fail at hitting the target a lot of times?

Bit ironic considering why the bow was replaced.
Me trying it out
well, he did kinda fail at hitting the target a lot of times?
doesnt count he staged that i know it
From what I understand the sling got replaced by the Bow because it required less training/skill and could penetrate armor. Slings were probably best used by multiple people at one target.
Part of the innacuracy might be the stones he's using, they're inconsistently shaped, sized, etc. Might need to make proper ammo for consistent shots. Then hay targets or something so you dont damage your ammo.
not really ironic it's like saying that it's ironic that cars replaced horsies for reasons of speed speed when horsies originally replaced walking for speed reasons
This, armor evolved a lot between the invention of the Bow and Crossbow.

The ones that I showed were actually melted lead, but at that point it's beyond "primitive" and goes to the days of post-settled civilizations.
At one point I'm expecting him to upload a video of a functioning trebuchet or catapult. :v:

Some of them used to say "I know you're starving."
The crack noise it makes every time he throws is extremely satisfying for some reason, for being one of the most basic weapons it really seems like it could be completely devastating in the right hands, I would shit my pants if I saw someone swinging one at me. I really can't wait to see what this guy does next, his editing is spot on for the subject and the things he makes with next to nothing are pretty amazing, I swear in a few years he'll be making rockets out of clay and sticks or some shit.
Damn, makes me want to try slinging again. It's so hard to throw accurately but insanely satisfying to actually hit anything.
He's got clay right near his little hut, he could make clay ammo. But I dunno whether it'd be dense enough to be used as ammo
i remember from a documentary about the aztecs that they specificially used clay ammunition for their slings because of how perfectly rounded they could make them. making them very good as sling ammo. worked well enough for them it seemed.
I've made a couple of slings before, though never out of bark fibers. They're really fun to use, even if you will be missing your target for a long time. Quite a rewarding hobby.
Man the noise it makes when it launches is so satisfying. And the sound when it hits the target...ohmygod
