That's exactly what's going on, and what he said was just playful banter. It was not a rape joke, it was just a [u]joke[/u]. The people who thought of it as a rape joke and complained about it, and the ones who continued to bitch about it are oversensitive children who looked too far into a kind of joke that gets thrown around by friends, casually, all day every day.
i think it's the fact that she was hopelessly outmatched and he said just let it happen alluded to it in some people's minds. it did with me.
people can have their own opinions about things, regardless of the original intention.
but then again i just think it's in poor taste. i don't think someone needs to be strung up by their balls.

Of course that's probably what he intended but the phrase "Just let it happen, it will be over soon" is an immediate metaphor for rape in most mediums I come across. I immediately thought it was a unintentional rape reference when I heard it even before I read anything from anywhere.
Do I think it was a horrible thing to say, yes. Do I think he knew what he was saying, nope.
Even if it were a rape joke, I still wouldn't get the fuss. I don't see anyone complain when you make a murder joke.

-a disgruntled employee who figured "fuck it" and wrote it into the script
-a clueless intern who didn't realize the implications of what he was doing

This really is the only answer to this piss poor excuse of a "discussion," anyone who over thought this and concluded that it was a rape joke should really look at themselves. It's like pulling the race card when someone wasn't even referring to race. I figured it was common knowledge by now that all E3 press conferences go entirely off of teleprompter perhaps excluding Ubisoft (god fucking knows why they don't). Every E3 photos circulate showing this.

Of course, it could be misinterpreted as a rape joke, and it might have possibly been risky to say, but that's only because you've already seen the outcome of this nonsensical controversy. You are getting way too worked up over a joke that has nothing to do with rape, and you're looking for a reason to be mad about it because you believe that it has everything to do with rape.
I honestly didn't even know what the rape joke was until I saw this video.
If you leave FP and /vg/ you actually see this cropping up a lot and generally the most optimistic reaction is "Wow that was a really weird thing to say".
I don't think he should be fired or punished in any way because I'm 99.98% sure it wasn't meant to be a reference to rape, but I do think that next time that guy or whoever wrote the script should be a little bit more aware of the things they say or write.

This doesn't mean anything really because people reacted immediately after he said that when there was no controversy. Also it's pretty condescending to say that the only reason one would think something was weird or risky to say is because other people think the same way and they are just jumping on a bandwagon. I was watching the Microsoft stream live and the second he said that I knew someone would bring it up because it was such an obviously stupid example of trashtalk when you are demoing a game to hundreds of thousands of people.
