He really blew this up.
Wow couldn't wing it
embarassing
What am I missing?
what was that?
His "I'm sorry" sounded like he was about to cry or something. I wonder what really happend.
This is why you put directors behind the cameras and actors on the other side.
His "I'm sorry" sounded like he was about to cry or something. I wonder what really happend.
Well he obviously had prepared answers on a teleprompter. But when it malfunctioned or whatever it did, He was like a deer in headlights, being put on the spot like that can be hard for a lot of people...
he's as bad a public speaker as he is a filmmaker
Funny as heck, but remember: He's a director, usually behind the camera and the scenes. I'm guessing he's not used to being in front of such a large audience and most people will break down in these situations, as I've seen happen a few times aside from this.
What a liar, too. If he really tried to create these worlds that are different from normal life, he wouldn't have made the Transformers trilogy take place on USA to begin with. Well, ok, maybe he is "trying", but it's obviously not working out in the end. Not to mention excessive special effects, bad script, bad acting, product placement up the ass, blah blah blah.
I bet he was in his own movie scene, where he feels guilt ridden about his best friends (The Teenage Alien Ninja Turtles) and decides to leave his fame just to apologise to them.
Wow that's a bad case of stage fright. Sucks but can't really blame him, everyone has their off days happen at the worst times.
Wowww that was painful to watch. Hope he's got a lot of people to cheer him up, that must have fucking sucked... At 00:50, his entire body signals that he's already done, and his voice when he says I'm sorry... God dang.
Was that stage fright or was he just pissed? Since he's so famous it seems like he'd be seeing big crowds rather often.

It's from the link you sent in the Valve conference thread
Update: Michael Bay has written about the experience on his blog. Here's his take on the matter. Wow! I just embarrassed myself at CES - I was about to speak for Samsung for this awesome Curved 105-inch UHD TV. I rarely lend my name to any products, but this one is just stellar. I got so excited to talk, that I skipped over the Exec VP's intro line and then the teleprompter got lost. Then the prompter went up and down - then I walked off. I guess live shows aren't my thing.

It's from the link you sent in the Valve conference thread
Not everyone can just be a boss at speaking after all Not saying George bush is bad or good as a president, but look at how bad he was. He was smart enough to be elected, and just because public speaking is common with Presidents, doesn't mean the president will be good at public speaking. Likewise with a director and his or her staff.
No problem, this is why there are actors and directors, separately with their specialties. I'm sure if you had any actor used to being in front of a live audience and improvising, they'd go for it effortlessly. If you've got a guy who specializes in pointing people in the direction of his vision for a movie, who's not used to being the one in front of everyone and remembering lines, you might end up with stage fright/being nervous in front of an audience, and there's no going back once you make a mistake. I think he made the better decision walking off stage than to continue on struggling, especially for promoting a product he was relying on the teleprompter for info on. He stopped right when they moved onto points about how the curved TV is good, which he probably couldn't remember off the top of his head. But people will use this to bag on him anyways which is ridiculous.
That TV looks ridiculous. I can't imagine it fitting into a living room without just taking over the whole space.
From the title I thought he was quitting his job or something
Man, I feel bad for him there. Public speaking can be an extremely difficult situation for some people, especially when you lose your notes (or teleprompter, as it were). Props to him for trying to continue before exiting, and good on the host for trying to extend a helpful branch to keep the conversation going. That could have gone a lot worse.
Regardless of my opinions on his movies, I can't help but feel real bad for him here.
What am I missing?
The Curve is a codename for a secret Illuminati project, but he realized they'd kill him if he talked anymore about it so he stopped.
That TV looks ridiculous. I can't imagine it fitting into a living room without just taking over the whole space.
It's just over 2 times as big as my current TV, most living rooms have the TV against a wall on it's own so there should be plenty of space for it.
It's funny because thanks to quitting so emotionally you kind of think that it was because the TV was so good that he just had to go home and watch it desperately.
just because he's famous and a director doesn't mean he'd be good in front of big crowds like this. come to think of it, i don't think i've ever seen michael bay on tv at all - maybe he hates this stuff. that would explain why he couldn't hack it once the teleprompter broke that said, why the fuck would you agree to do something like this if a little technical fault means you're likely to basically freeze up and shit yourself
I reckon I could've winged it better than him....
It's from the link you sent in the Valve conference thread
At least he's got the balls to say he fucked up, I can respect him for that.
Hello, I'm Michael Bay, and today I'll be discussing my passion for film making *teleprompter cuts out* uhh... fuck this i'm rich *drops mic*
