I find NK videos very interresting, got any?
skip to 1:30 if you want.
That was really interesting.
These videos always make me sad, so many people who are talented, hard working, and genuine are stuck in that weird strange place with little opportunities and freedoms. I really hope at some point in my life we see a peaceful transition to a more open and free NK.
The vice guide to North Korea has always been the grandfather of these kinds of videos - to me at least:

I remember a video about a guy (or girl) travelling more freely through the country than these guided tours, not gonna look for it right now though.
Seems like they really upped their TV game since the last video I watched - flatscreens in the hotel room.
Also, I can recommend Guy Delisle's comic about going to North Korea. He was there for an extended period of time because of his job, which gives some different insights into the country. Nothing to Envy was also a great read.
Man whatever happened to Vice? They used to produce such awesome content
they still do
vice is half garbage and half good footage
you havent seen their ukraine and iraq coverage?
Man whatever happened to Vice? They used to produce such awesome content
They still do from time to time, their site is just filled with filler and pop-journalism to pay the bills like everyone else unfortunately.
I feel like this guy would drink the kool-aid if given the opportunity.
I wonder what it looks like outside of the capital

Great video on revisiting North Korea with vice
And bring some guests along

I don't think so. I think he just genuinely enjoyed his trip, it was interesting. To be honest I always wanted to go on a tour of NK. All you have to do is smile, nod and be respectful and in return you get a cheap, all inclusive, guided tour with quite a bit of luxury to impress you.
Honestly I'd like to see an Olympic game held in NK. They'd put on a REALLY impressive show and I'd love to see what kind of crazy shit they'd come up with. Too bad the whole crazy regime thing makes it impossible to ensure that people wouldn't be abducted for violating minor laws.
There's also this, though sadly it's not that good quality upload

I'm going to North Korea for the national games in about two weeks. I'm really looking forward to it.

Too bad it won't happen. Dictators usually aren't very willing to give up their power.

Gavin McInnes left and then it slowly went downhill
Found the video I was talking about - also on Vice apparently:

They still put out some pretty cool videos once in a while, but yeah it kinda transitioned into mostly garbage.

If you're allowed to take pictures you should make a thread about it! I mean don't get arrested for FP thread content but that would be super interesting to hear about.

Not sure if this is the guy you're talking about, but this guy lived in North Korea from November 2012 to March 2016. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCzvCf_q10UZkUJE0lOav0ag/videos
Here's his most popular video:

And here's his most recent video:

That wasn't the video I was talking about, but those are definitely very (probably more) interesting!
super interesting video. cool to see this from the perspective of a tourist rather than a journalist

this guy's videos definitely have a more political undertone to them and almost everything he's filming are things that can only be done by the 1%/tourists

I may have Internet while i'm over there, so i might make a thread live from Pyongyang.

I was under the impression that NK Internet was highly restricted to outside sites.

The guy flashed Instagram while he was in that store for the privileged. I'm sure there is something you can do.

Panormama had another episode a few weeks ago, Rupert Wingfield-Hayes eventally got booted out the country, but not before being detained and taken away from the rest of his team, the guy was terrified he's be going to be imprisoned.

Interesting video despite it's quality, i'd recommend getting it on Iplayer instead if you can access it.

You'd be right. North Koreans have their own intranet entirely for their own citizens. However, access to the outside Internet is hugely limited for all but a select few. Those select few usually include the hotels and hostels inside North Korean that the foreigners stay at. Also yes, there are youth hostels inside North Korea and i'm staying at one. North Korea can be decently cheap.
I feel really sorry for those kids who will be growing up in a world like that.
