Found this in my video recomendations, thought it was an interesting video about For Honor.
Some of the other videos on this channel are pretty good.
the gameplay is fun. the problem is that there is nothing else but generic duels and weak 4v4's (or weak 4v4's with useless npc soldiers). theres nothing in the game to really give it any oomph. the story is laughably bad and just serves as a five-hour filler for what amounts to nothing in the end which is ironic seeing as the developers were so, so proud of it.
its like a fighting game without the snazzy stuff. this game tries to be more but fails and just leaves me wanting instead. imagine if they had 30v30 battles and sieges akin to mount and blade, that wouldve been fun. imbalanced maybe but hey atleast itd be something.

Personally I find the gameplay itself of the duels and group vs group is enough in itself to go a long way, but I do wish the gamemodes were a little more different, or a few more maybe, obviously they need to balance stuff but that's a time issue.
Also I really hope they create more story missions as they include DLC characters, I personally loved going through the story and found it really fun with all of its weird interactions and excuses to have a faction fight another, it was just a nice ride to me personally but I can see why some people would find it trash.
remove the minions and add 4-5 more players
My prediction is that most of the player base will die out leaving only the cult followers. It is a quite unique and overall well made game, but it lacks the components to keep most players interested for long. Possibly they will go R6 route and make a cheap basic edition to boost playerbase.

I would rather the opposite. Remove all game modes but Duels and Brawl, do some balance updates, make this a competitive game, to be adopted by the FGC and others. Abilities and power ups do not feel good or balanced in this game. I want to win by pure skill, not because I kited to get a damage pick up, or because I got a cheap shot with a long bow, or because revenge is the biggest comeback mechanic since blue shell. I want to outplay my opponent or be outplayed by my opponent.
Its biggest problem is that there is no incentive to being aggressive. It's extremely easy to punish people. High level play will either be just assassins with their really quick attacks, or staring contests, because no one wants to attack first.
The game feels incredibly stiff to me. Like you'll wind up an attack and that attack will only go a set distance every single time and land in the exact same place every time. Not really much to learn to the game besides... not doing that and waiting for your opponent to do it first, messing up.
In similar third person weapon fighting games there's always a degree of movement you can improve upon. Chivalry has dragging combos, Dark Souls has freeform sprint attacks, wind-up feints, things that reward being aggressive and understanding your movement. This game just feels like a static rock-paper-scissors.
It's fine as a fighting game when you play duel and 2v2 and it's really fun and competetive. It really didn't need to be more than that. Just improve the p2p things and some balancing and it would be fine. Instead they felt the need to create an unbalanced gamemode that doesn't fit in with the gameplay at all and build some stupid storymode and cosmetics etc, so they could charge 60$ for it. Of course less people are going to buy it then, I know I didn't.
the name of the game is guardbreak spam and environmental kills
why go the length to make a guard system with lightning reflexes when you can just spam guardbreak and throw people off cliffs
SKILL BASED GAMEPLAY

git gud, actually
I'm pretty much expecting it to pull a Siege.
The game will die out until some of its issues are fixed, and the price goes down. Once that happens (and the game is promoted via a free weekend), the game will start picking up steam again, especially if Ubisoft continues to support it with interesting updates.
That being said, I don't think it'll get as big as Siege, because at its core, For Honor is more of a fighting game, and fighting games have always had rather niche audiences.
The core game itself is great, and I'd definitely recommend getting it at some point, but I'll definitely say that it isn't worth $60 and potential connection headaches right now.

Even though I agree that it's a fighting game, I don't really see the FGC adopting it. I also don't see it doing well on streams.
To me, For Honor is more fun to play than to watch.
The guardbreak counter is the biggest gripe in terms of the game mechanics that I have right now.

correction, get charge bashed by a warden into guardbreak into chain hits into guardbreak into shoulder bash into guardbreak
there's a short period where your input literally does nothing after you've been hit.

sholderbashes can be sidestepped which leave them open to an attack. Guardbreaks cant do anything against you if you're attacking when they happen. You can also just deny the guardbreaks.
guardbreaks interrupt heavy attacks

You can cancel your shoulder bash into a guard break and if your opponent dodged he won't be able to counter the guard break.
Game definitely has some issues at high level, but honestly most people aren't really there and with some decent feint game you can open the huge majority of players up with even with slower characters. I really enjoy playing this game, but I rarely touch the 4v4 modes. The real meat of the game is duels and brawls if you ask me, and those can be very engaging and intense. It's really satisfying when you're playing well.
guardbreaks interrupt heavy attacks
Only if you're playing the slowest characters and using their slowest attacks, or start a heavy attack after the guardbreak began.

This is true, but any decent warden will cancel their bash to bait a grab since you can tech people out of dashes. The only 100% effective counter to the warden vortex is to roll away.

Side dash. Light attack. You have options.
you're all thinking this is happening from combat start
if it was happening from combat start i wouldn't have a problem with it
you can't light attack because you're still reeling from the last light attack and then you get bashed or guardbroken
dashing only works for faster classes because god knows how many times i've tried to dodge a guardbreak and gotten grabbed anyway
Side dash. Light attack. You have options.
Side dash doesn't work against a shoulder bash guardbreak. It's a 50/50, it comes down to guessing whether he'll cancel the bash into GB or not.
In short For Honor is a cheese vs cheese situation. Where some classes can cheese better if they can be the first to land a hit.

I really don't agree and I play the most underpowered class
