Technology is expensive. I don't understand why you're surprised.

Why is this surprising to you?
just so shocking, $1.4k, I mean I know they were expensive but...
then they blast that $2.5k in my face
holy shit

uh dood, hard drives that had like 12mb of data on them used to sell for around 30 grand (in todays money). Technology used to be very expensive, but today it's super cheap so consider yourself lucky and be grateful.

To get specific, that $1400 phone would about $3,000 in today's money, and that $2495 phone would be about $5,250 in today's cash.

You also have to remember that this was during the tail end of the baby boomer generation, where a person could buy a home with a full time hourly job that requires no degree, and go to college and pay for it by working part time. Dropping 3 grand on a phone wouldn't be out of the norm during these days.

That's a bit exaggerated. 3 thousand was a big deal back in the day and the ones who had it was strictly for business. The ad has it appeal to wealth as you can see the head contractor is looking over blue prints and that requires a civil engineering degree. Even this commercial with a phone having a larger battery was a person in real estate who is doing well enough to golf and have a boat.

True, you could afford more things back then with your job then you can today unless your the 1% percent. But, 1.5k was way out of the working class's budget, a high end PC (top of the line with a good sound system) in the early 90s was an investment that could do a thousand useful things to help out in life. Back in the day Radio shack used to sell PCs and was the goto place to get them. Think radio being the poor man's sharper image back in the day that did have some the high end stuff for the upper upper middle class.
Man, I love and hate Radioshack. On one hand, they're super awesome to get hardware parts from, like diodes, breadboards, small electronics parts and the like, but on the other hand, they monopolize it because nobody else is able to make a sustainable business on that, and raise prices almost 3 times compared to what you can get online (albiet from China.) I hope they don't go outta business though, cause whenever I'm in a tough spot I can run downtown and get something and not have to wait 3 days to get it shipped.
you can pay around $1000 for a top spec iphone. Crazy
And then Apple saw this and said Hey, We can still do this, watch
i've always loved seeing videos like this.
seeing how the outlook on cellphones goes from groundbreaking technology to an everyday thing that basically everyone has is really cool to see imo.
Affordable :v:
I have that phone.
You can fucking kill someone with it, then use it to weigh the body down when you throw him in the river. :v:
Also keep in mind that these fuckers weren't cheap to use either. Talking for a few hours a month could rack up a phone bill in the thousands.
I love how they show a fucking CONSTRUCTION WORKER using a $2,500 phone.
SO THAT'S WHAT THAT WAS. I remember my grandma having one in her car.

The guy looks pretty in charge. Generally the guy overseeing everything in construction is more educated and better paid. And it's also a job where a cell phone would be highly useful.

Oh, so like any modern satellite phone?

Dude, those phones were incredibly sturdy. Compared to today's mobile devices those DynaTACs could survive just about anything thrown at it.
Someday, we'll all be laughing at 1TB SSD's costing more than $500

Regardless a key point often in advertising is to defy the stereotype they're associated with. In this case Working Joe has one and not the rich business executive or drug kingpin if you know what I mean.

We we're just talking about this in our tech class. My teacher had to help design an array that could backup and store 1tb worth of data in the mid/late 90's. The cost? $250,000. Now you can go to Bestbuy and buy a usb drive that stores that much for $100.
