undertale is unfunny trash with a boring gameplay gimmick that gets old after the first 3 times if ur an undertale fan and u think ur less awful than a homestuck fan or something you are deluded. every single one of u post about it all the time and try to get others to play it and set it as your avatar. every single one of you. in denial
i played undertale for an hour or so and i think its okay, but nothing to be obsessed about. i'll probably beat it some day, but can't really get behind the fanbase

Clearly us upper class have the good taste in video games, since our higher education allows it. I feel terrible that those cannot share our tastes, for i would like to share it with them.
I bought Rabi Ribi instead of Undertale, fight me. Still don't know why those who played Undertale just keep shoving down people throat, sure it's a great game but it isn't for everyone.

That was really good.
this game fucking sucks, it's basically jokes rehashed from tumblr. however, the soundtrack is A+ mmm boiiii.
10/10 sometimes the text was a tad hard to read.
Have you heard the good news, about our lord and savior Undertale?
Isn't this some homestuck game all these nerds have been going on and on about nonstop?
Undertale is a game that gets exponentially worse the more you know about it before playing it.

I played Undertale for the first time a couple days ago and it was completely impossible to not think of cringy weirdos for the entirety of my play session. I'd seen so much of the game in the context of weird obsessives on Tumblr I couldn't care about what was in the game just "oh it's that one guy from that 'Undertale changed my life' post."
The real problem with Undertale is not the game itself its the horrible obnoxious fan base that make the game incredibly unappealing.
i'm lucky to have played undertale before it exploded the way it did if i had played it any later my opinion of it would be "it's not THAT good, it's okay i guess" like with every other overhyped game i've played the jokes are only funny the first time after all

I went into it completely blind except to the fact that it was popular. Turns out as someone who strongly dislikes that whole Homestuck thing, I enjoyed it and had no idea who Toby Fox was until after I beat it. It's at least decent. Even if you don't like the characters (which the majority of people seem to base the goodness of it on) it's still good on a technical level. It has some cool moments where the story is actually intertwined with the gameplay itself. Something that's either hard to pull off or not pulled off enough in these story-centric games nowadays. (Has some Brothers: Tale of Two Sons kind of moments is what I'm saying) Shaking up the stale mechanic of turn-based RPG numbers with a bullet-hell style dodge system is fun at best, and at least better than the alternative of Press>Attack to RNG alone. At the very least, Undertale may be overrated- but I find it very hard to call it a bad game. My only personal gripes being some slight bothers in art inconsistency, pacing, and store placement relative to a certain boss fight. And it's hard to push the shtick of people that like Undertale having the demeanor of rabid Homestuck fanboys when the first reply to this thread is rabid bashing on it.
The real problem with Undertale is not the game itself its the horrible obnoxious fan base that make the game incredibly unappealing.
Is that a problem with the game though? I avoid engaging with fanbases that I know are bad so to me it's just a good game and nothing to it.

I go through the general gaming reddits/tumblrs as much as the next person and I've never seen anything too shoehorny in fandom. Surely if you go actively lurking in any fandom you'll find that kind of cringiness? I consider Dr. Who's fandom to be the worse that I know about but surely that doesn't have any bearing on what I think of the show. (Don't like it but still, it's not because of the audience).
Is that a problem with the game though? I still haven't seen this unbearable fanbase everybody is scared of, I feel like I would have to specifically look for them Maybe you guys should get off tumblr and deviantart
Is that a problem with the game though? I avoid engaging with fanbases that I know are bad so to me it's just a good game and nothing to it.
It poisons the experience of the game when you play the game and a joke appears for example all you will be reminded of is tumblr memes. It is the same deal as what happened with arrow in the knee it was a weak typical Beth pun that turned into a meme of stomach wrenching proportions. Not to say though that any of the Undertale jokes were funny to begin with.
Do people think that everyone who likes Undertale nag others to play it because they hear a lot of people complain about that happening without ever actually experiencing it?

Start fight, bullet hell, try talking to enemy, bullet hell, try talking to enemy differently, bullet hell, rinse and repeat until you get it right, walk away from fight. It's like a dating sim where every wrong answer you give in the conversation forces you to play Touhou.
"I hate undertale because it's clearly made by a SJW Lesbian Homestuck Tumblr guy called Toby Fox and he's just appealing to furries and it's just filled with SJW propaganda and shitty memes character, I've heard it in my 4chin boards" :dog:
god dammit i want to reply negatively but i can smell the ban he coming if i do. good bait
he doesn't ban people that often so you could probably get away with calling him a naughty word
Is that a problem with the game though? I avoid engaging with fanbases that I know are bad so to me it's just a good game and nothing to it.
The problem with games like the stanley parable, and undertale, are that they are games that are HYPER sensitive to spoilers. Far more than other games, actually. They're games that you have to dive into ice cold, otherwise it really does detract from the experience.
I think it plays into the same sorta crowd that generally likes weird quirky things like Earthbound and Mother, an already very rabid fanbase. It spread through word of mouth through the kinds of people who really really really REALLY like those kinds of games, and hey, a ton of people realized they like Earthbound-like games too, by trying out Undertale. And now you got an obsession, because to them it's new and exciting.
not only that but Earthbounders are a hyper rare genre, and the ones that are have solid reviews List of earthbounders that aren't earthbound 1. Undertale 2. Lisa 3. Nothing else this is the same reason the new star wars exploded so quickly. The fanbase is extremely thirsty for something that's basically asking to be milked.
I just hope we don't see the survival/zombie game effect where there are hundreds of games trying to milk the same genre but every one of them being, at best, almost acceptable games. basically, the logic is "Undertale was a success. Obviously if we copy it, we'll be a success to", when in reality, Markiplier, Star wars, Call of Duty, pizza, ecigs, and Louis CK are all succesful because of their own reasons. Just because shoving glass up your ass is popular, doesn't mean you'll get lots of attention by doing it. we're STARTING to see this with souls-likes, just barely.
-snipped to ease scrolling-
I suppose that's definitely the case. Biggest thing about souls too, is that it's an established mechanic that you can work into a game and build it, using it as a solid core. With survival/zombie games it's the wild west of genres, there are no established anything that works and anything goes. You add a shitty resource and food mechanic and then call it a day after 1 hour of work. I guess when it comes to Earthbounders, they have to have a mentality behind it more than anything. Earthbounders aren't earthbounders because they follow a set of rules or because the developers are skilled at programing certain mechanics into the game, they're that way because the logic of the game follows a certain psychology and has a certain sense of humor.
