Funnily enough, becoming transgendered is literally curing gender dysphoria.
And coming from someone who is mentally ill, if you think of people who have mental illnesses as less than you and insane, go fuck yourself.
Ah, another dumb video made by the guy who thinks that women want to destroy nations.
I'm afraid to give this a view under the assumption that it is clickbait, but from the thumbnail and title I have a guess at the contents. Please tell me, those of you who gave into temptation, how accurate I am:
This video starts out by establishing that being transgender is a mental problem in some capacity, but rather than being educational with the aim of describing that there is a discord between mind and body it paints them as terrible for pursuing their identity, implying that transgender people should redefine their entire mental identity to make the rest of the world more comfortable. And all of that as spitefully and aggressive as possible, to ensure maximum immaturity for more views.

Dude I didn't even watch the video and I know you're correct.

One could draw strong correlation to implying that homosexual people should be "cured" into heterosexuality rather than left alone as well.

Disregard the content and the point of view of this video. I need to point out something pressing: you're both commenting and passing judgement on something you have not watched.
This video is fifteen minutes long. By the time this thread was ten minutes old - I refreshed at 10 minutes into the video in order to ensure this - it already had seven dumb ratings. Apparently, seven people watched a 15 minute video in 10 minutes - or they just read the title and rated dumb without consuming the contents. People are passing judgement on something that they have not seen or read yet. That is terrifying. You are either so close-minded that you do not want to hear an opinion that differs from yours, or so insecure in your beliefs that you do not want to hear an opinion that differs from yours. Watch the video before you comment on it.
Basically the video maker thinks gender reassignment is self-harm with help from the medical profession.
Don't know if the video maker is serious or trolling but I can assure you that if this thread deteriorates into flaming and trolling it will be closed, and people may be banned.
I only agree about the part with the children, the rest really is stupid.
I mean this video was off to a dubious start just in the title.
"The Transgender:", as if this is some kind of nature documentary on some strange and foreign species.

Some things are so fucking stupid all you can do is laugh at them. The idea that trans women are just insane men/sexual deviants/whatever conservatives are scared of today is an idea not even worth discussing. It validates an objectively false opinion.
I'm not going to waste 15 minutes of my life being told that I'm actually a pedophile/self-mutilating/a rapist because "Oh, we have to respect ~everyone's~ opinions!"
as usual, I really regret reading the youtube comments

I'm not asking you to watch the video. I'm not forcing anyone to watch the video. I am, however, asking everyone who comments on the video to watch it and know what they're talking about. Everyone can just ignore it like you said and not give them the views and internet traffic. But if we're going to have a discussion about the video, we can't have people discussing it who haven't watched it.
Whether or not I agree with the video is irrelevant. The concept of consuming material before commenting on it is universal.

Except they aren't far off. The video's message is that it's super bad how transgender people are in the media now because it will make kids want to be trans for attention and how trans people shouldn't have sex change procedures be a right.
The video compares these kids to a girl who convinced her psychiatrist to blind her because she wanted to be blind, and how these young people may change their whole biological sex for attention and regret it later.
These types of videos come out very often and those posters aren't wrong for assuming the worst. I get where you're coming from, it's bad to judge a book by it's cover, but still.

There's nothing to discuss about this video. It's wrong, plain and simple. Argue against proven medical science all you want, but trans people aren't mutilating themselves like the video says.

My argument is that if you want to efficiently refute an obviously incorrect stance (such as the one the creator of the video here holds), it would make more sense to watch it, pick out exactly where he's wrong, and refute those points. If you don't listen to his argument, how can you know where he's wrong? It would be much better to listen to the argument, identify exactly what is incorrect, and explain why it is incorrect rather than guessing at what the presenter is saying and taking potshots at assumptions. And you can certainly assume that a video like this is not going to be good - as I did - but the important thing is to pick out the specific instances that prove it isn't good, and that can only be done by watching it.
tl;dr you have to consume the opposite argument in order to effectively refute it and I didn't see people in this thread doing that.
[sp]I'm not trying to flame other users, I'm just trying to bring attention to an issue I see in general. Sorry if this is starting a flame war but I think it's an important topic to discuss, and I am doing my best to remain respectful.[/sp]

No I fully understand that, but you need to get that, like I said, this sort of video comes out a lot. A video of a misinformed closeminded person talking about transgenderism, or some other identify related subject, and demonizing it when they clearly don't understand what they're talking about. It's incredibly tiring.
It's at the point you can see a title and thumbnail and immediately know what you're in for.
You can't really blame them for not watching it, but still wanting to voice their displeasure at this genre of video.

I suppose I hadn't considered that these videos occur a lot and it might get tiresome constantly watching and arguing against them all the time. I can certainly accept that someone might not want to watch the video for that reason, and I guess I can't fault them for passing judgement on what they see as just another one of those videos. I just feel like people here - especially, ESPECIALLY in Sensationalist Headlines - read a title and comment on it without reading the entire argument or article. I suppose I am not so much frustrated at people not consuming this individual video, but I am frustrated moreso at the fact that the response to this video is symptomatic of a larger-scale trend of jumping the gun and talking about things people don't know about simply because they didn't watch a video or read an article.
All I'm arguing in favor of is listening to the other side, reading the article, watching the video, whatever, in order to break this trend of responding before reading. This video is just symptomatic of it and I felt it was a good place to bring it up.
This is the videos and flash movies section. You should watch the video before contributing to the thread as the video is the topic. If you don't want to watch the video don't post.

Regardless of how right you are, this is close-minded and counterproductive. Considering a wrong idea won't make it any less wrong. Calling someone stupid for what they think will only serve to entrench them further in their opinion whether they show it outwardly or not. There will be some who refuse to see reality, but you win more people over when arguing with a cool head.
Surely you have fifteen minutes to spare for a subject so important and personal.
I watched about 3 minutes before I shut it off, dude is fucking insane.
I just don't want to give them views.

I think it's less a matter of sticking their fingers in their ears and saying "LALALALALA" when presented with the opposing argument, and more that they dont want to give youtube views (which provide stuff like ad revenue and other benefits) to someone that is almost certainly bigoted against them and their condition.
If you don't want to view the video on principle that's fine - but you can't come into a thread which has a video as the topic and make comments about content which you haven't actually viewed.
It's fine to come in and say why you aren't going to view (as long as you don't flame or troll other users), it's not fine to comment on the video itself unless you've watched it. Would you comment on a movie you haven't seen in a thread about that movie? Surely this is just common sense.

Well certainly there's a case for that, but one view isn't going to net the producer of the video any significant chunk of change. The people who subscribe to his videos are the people who are going to rewatch it over and over again and are the ones who generate his ad revenue, not the one-off Facepuncher who views it to gather material for a discussion and who may or may not have AdBlock, thus rendering advertisements nonexistent.
That also doesn't excuse the fact that people were commenting on the content of the video without having actually seen the video. If you don't want to watch the video, fine, then don't. But don't talk about something you can not possibly have any way of knowing about. That's the main issue I had.

You're focusing on the symptom of the problem - this particular video. Expand your viewpoint to see the greater problem as a whole. This happens with videos and news stories of all types, and it ought to stop. It's counterproductive to meaningful discussions
