From an official Youtube channel... And here I thought what Ray Johnson did wasn't fair use with the ads and everything... [editline]2nd July 2013[/editline] And I wonder why they aren't allowing ratings.
I'm glad they explained fair use.
Copyright rules that are consistently abused.
Copyright rules that are consistently abused.
Especially by Ray William Johnson, but that is somehow okay according to Youtube.
I wish Youtube would actually follow this.
I'm pretty sure hundreds of people have had their original content taken down because it was copyrighted by RWJ.
Fair Use is such a goddamn shaky-ground legal gray area it's ridiculous.
I couldn't help but notice the framed picture of Dave Chappelle as Prince in the background. Now I shall go see Charlie Murphy's true Hollywood stories that has probably been illegally uploaded on Youtube.
RWJ has been known to take down the content he takes his video from. He even takes down channels that reupload the original videos he used in his videos. He's the definition of a copyright troller on YT.
RWJ even took down videos that didn't have him in it (the "RWJ without RWJ" videos)
So Let's Plays with ads are allowed because of Fair Use? Since they are commentating on the content ( video game footage). Or am I missing something?

This is the reason reviews are protected. Also along with that, no lets play is completely the same. This is why RiffTrax doesn't sell them with the movie, they sell the track alone to play with it because a movie is... a movie and it doesn't change depending on who is watching it.
YouTube content ID is a hit and miss most of the time
It's too bad that a majority of companies don't know what fair use. Right, Viacom?

Lots of companies will do this with no restrictions or simple ones (i.e. BI studios for Arma 2/3 ask that you add in the video that the game was made by them and its title). Valve will just let you go silly. Some reserve the right to take down the content at their discretion (i.e. if it causes issues).
L.A. Noire, if I remember correctly, was being taken down by Rockstar for god knows what reason
