I get the feeling it gets that reputation because all the biggest most popular cheap money-making beers are like that, and those are probably the ones that get exported the most. All the flavorless shit like natty.
But we also have some awesome breweries like Sweetwater and Rogue that make the good shit, but I don't know how "international" they are.

A lot of regions now have some seriously good microbrews, and the old american Ciders (as Cider was the main American alcoholic export ages ago, I believe) are making a comeback as well. Those are pretty sweet though but who gives a fuck they taste like fizzy alcoholic apple ciders

I just stick with captain and coke for the middle ground of nice tasting and not so girly drink.
I can't stand bitter stuff so when I had beer it was just a giant "nope". Hell I can't even drink medicine without nearly throwing it back up.

Beer is delicious. Just like any sort of drink there's good ones and bad ones. There's good whiskey and there's bad whiskey. There's good sodas and there's bad sodas. I'll admit beer is mostly an acquired taste, but I enjoy and look forward to drinking a galaxy with dinner or something
Beer can be quit good if you know where to look but then again I love plan tasting coffee with no suger and like bitter and spicy shit.

Beer's an acquired taste, you don't go around bitching about how shitty coffee tastes because it's too bitter, you try different kinds of coffee, get used to the bitterness and then start to appreciate the different kinds.
There's a lot of beer I don't really enjoy but some of it's pretty good.
The only alcoholic drink that tastes nice and isn't considered girly is pear cider.

oh man, down here in new zealand we have kiwifruit and mandarin cider and it is the best thing ever.
I loved all cider I've tried, however most other people seem to be indifferent/not like it.
