I'm actually kinda curious if VR could be a helpful way to sort of "train" for social stuff. If eye contact feels real then it would be neat to be able to practice maintaining it in VR where there's no awkwardness from failing to do so. Not that it's super hard to learn to keep eye contact but it would feel "safer" than in reality, at least to me.
Of course the wacky characters kinda make it silly :v:

I don't know about VR, but I've heard that similar experiments with fictional vehicles with faces on them have had good success as a treatment for people with autism:

Is it though? The eyes of other characters aren't always tracking you. If this is what they were using then shouldn't every model using that technique be constantly looking at you? At 0:21 to 0:23 in the OP video you can very clearly see the person putting their hand up look at different players and different spots in the environment.
Honestly the fucking look she gives him when he realizes her hand is there is kinda great. I'd sit around in VR watching people do weird shit like this all the time if I had a VR set.
